That said, color copies seem to blow a hole in the side of the bureaucratic ship.

More than once, I’ve watched them separate my originals and copies and put color copies in the original pack. I usually have to correct them.

Especially true for things with just a colored stamp.

On a retirement visa you get to avoid someone coming to your house to take photos of you and your wife sitting on your bed. 😉

I’m on a non-o based on marriage and I keep 800k seasoned in my account on the off chance I go to immigration to renew and something goes pear shaped and I just give in and do a retirement visa to avoid anymore hassles.

I just prefer to think of the lost interest as part of the visa/extension fee.

What are we talking about on 800,000 baht, about 4,000 baht at 0.5%?

Wouldn’t they be eligible for employment under a marriage visa vs a retirement visa? That’s the only thing I can think of, other than the 800k vs 400k thing and insurance requirements.

I’ll defer to Tod as to whether or not travel outside of Thailand causes any issues.

You may need to obtain a re-entry permit.

But, they don’t hold your passport during that period. You just get a stamp that says “Under Consideration” in your passport.
