DTV E-Visa application SUCCESSFUL šŸ™ŒšŸ»

Place of issue: Hanoi

This story has a few ups and downs so I hope it might help some of you to plan better and avoid stupid (expensive) mistakes.

We are a family of 3. My husband applied first and me and our son got the visa through his.

The first thing that went wrong was that just a few days before we arrived in Hanoi, they switched to the E-Visa system. We had read that it was easier and faster in Hanoi compared to KL (thatā€™s why we decided to come to Hanoi), but in the end, it took just as long, and we had to stay in Hanoi for 2 weeks instead of the 5 days we had plannedā€¦ so that was the first setback.

My husband applied online, and they responded within 5 days. A stupid system error, an automatic reading of the passport, entered an incorrect middle name, and because of that, they canceled the visa. He had to reapply (and pay the fees again). A day later, his visa was approved.

That same day, we applied for mine and our sonā€™s, and it took 5 business days to be granted, with nothing to add or correct (there was also a national holiday in the middle).

Important Documents for the family visa: notarized translation of the birth certificate and marriage certificate, a bank account in my name with 500,000 baht (different from the one my husband used).

Honestly, I didnā€™t know if a notarized translation was needed but I didnā€™t want to risk to get denied for that.

If we had known that you could only apply online, my husband would have come alone, and my son and I would have come once he had the visa.

We would have saved a lot on flights and hotel nights if we had done that.

Hope it helps!!

Good luck to all of you ā˜˜ļø

Good morning. I need help. I have been living in Thailand for two years. My baby was born few months ago. I am a proud father šŸ˜Š. I have been on a non-o visa since then. However, when extending the visa, I was told at the immigration office that as a father I could apply for a 12-month visa. An additional advantage of this 12-month visa is the fact that it can be extended every year by one year without having to leave the country. This is a very good option. However, in order to obtain this visa, I must obtain a document from the juvenile court stating that I am the father because I am not married to the child's mother. So I went to the court to submit the documents and was told that as a foreigner I could not do it in person. I need to hire a lawyer. How is this possible? Why can't I submit the documents myself? The cheapest lawyer we could find was 20,000 baht! This is ridiculously expensive. Even in Europe, legal services are several times cheaper. I don't understand why I can't submit the documents myself and go this route without hiring a lawyer. Is this another farang money grab? Can anything be done? Or maybe do you know any other option for a father who wants to be with his child? Thank you for all your help.

Sorry for my English, this is a translation because English isn't my native.

Hi, looking to move my family to Bangkok. Any expats with a Long Term Resident Visa? Would really like to know the approval rate and if its worth forking out so much money. I have no criminal record, debt, loans or anything of the sort that could (in my perspective) hinder me from getting approved. Any advice?

[Bangkok]

Is it possible to apply online for 1-year extension based on marriage to Thai national?

[members only]

**2.19 Family member of a Thai residence (Non-Immigrant)

**7. Residence certificate and alien registration certificate of the alien granted residence permit in Thailand.

I don't have this one, never needed it for this extension.

So do I (and my wife) need to go apply in person at Chaengwattana?

Thank you!
