Retirement visa for dependents: spouse plus 2 minor children. So once the main person gets the retirement visa, to apply for the spouse (under 50) and 2 children, what is the financial requirement? Is the 800,000 baht for initial visa enough or do they need to show individually as well? And how much? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a retirement visa in Thailand, the main applicant must originally qualify, and then seek separate visas for dependents, including a spouse and minor children. Each dependent generally needs to meet their own visa requirements, as trailing spouse visas are not commonly available. The financial requirement typically is not solely the initial 800,000 baht; instead, both spouses may need to show individual proofs unless one qualifies for specific options like the LTR Wealthy Pensioner visa, which allows for family members under certain financial thresholds.

What is considered 'wealthy pensioner ' in Thai eyes, to allow for dependants ?

Is WP a legal term with some visas ?

80k usd or equivalent in passive income

LTR Wealthy Pensioner would be an option if your spouse is qualified.

Then he or she can add up to four family members on his/her visa.

You CANNOT get a trailing spouse non-O visa inside of Thailand. It is not offered and has not ever been offered. The only embassy in all of SE Asia that used to offer it no longer offers it anymore.

Most embassies around the world no longer offer a trailing spouse non-O visa if the over 50 spouse also has a non-O visa.

SOME embassies are willing to sell the 2nd spouse a non-O trailing spouse visa only if the primary spouse purchases a non-OA visa from the embassy, but this is not that common either.

For the most part there is no more trailing spouse for retirement. Both spouses must qualify for their own visas. You can check with your embassy to see if they will sell one of you a non-O visa based on being over 50 and the other spouse a non-O trailing spouse visa, or if they will sell one a non-OA and the other one a non-O, but don't count on this being an option.

For child dependents there should not be any financial requirement, but you would need to check with the embassy outside of Thailand or your immigration office inside of Thailand as they each make their own policies.

many just take minor kids in on a tourist visa and let them overstay as there's no penalty if under 15 other than getting an overstay stamp in their passport

would prefer not to do that if possible even though they are under 15. If can avoid it, would prefer to avoid. Ummm maybe get them ED Language Visa? ๐Ÿค”

@Lopsee *********
you said elsewhere they won't be attending school so you can't get them an ED visa

I don't know if kids can get an ED visa through a language school

thanks. Still have time so will see what other options. And message the Thai Embassy as well to see if they can shed some light.

minimum age to get a language school ED visa is 15. That being said though, I know one person who couldn't get the ED visa for his son in Bangkok because he wasn't 16 but was able to get it in Chiang Mai so the age requirement may vary depending on Immigration Office.

I believe so. I don't recall anyone asking about kids on a retirement visa.

am I missing something? Thought spouse could join.

you might find an embassy to sell you a dependent visa if you're spouse is on an extension of stay but you won't find one in SE Asia

we are in South Asia...so maybe there is a chance ๐Ÿ˜†

check the thai embassy website for where you are

@Lopsee *********
if you can find an embassy that will sell it sure. But as I said it's basically no longer offered at any embassy and it's not available in Thailand. So the other spouse would have to qualify for their own visa without relying on the retired spouse.

thanks will look into it and email the embassy.

But minor children can be dependents and no financial requirements there?

still confused...

If your spouse is also looking to retire in Thailand and is not a Thai citizen, and they meet all the above eligibility requirements, they will be able to qualify for the Thai Retirement Visa.

If your spouse is below 50 years of age or does not qualify for the Retirement Visa, they can still join you on your journey by applying for a Thai Dependent Visa.

This visa is renewable on an annual basis

The visa will be canceled the moment you and your spouse have filed for a divorce

The following requirements need to be met:

Your spouse will need a passport with a remaining validity of at least 6 months

You will need to provide proof of relationship documents (such as a marriage certificate)

You will need to demonstrate that you can support your spouse (this can be achieved by providing proof of financial documents)
