TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a visa to bring a Filipina partner to the UK, proof of funds typically requires providing UK bank statements showing sufficient savings to support her. Additionally, evidence may be required to demonstrate the partner's intention to return to the Philippines, such as employment proof, property ownership, or family ties. Some applicants choose to use visa agents to navigate the complex process effectively, and it is often necessary for the partner to apply from the Philippines rather than Thailand.

Don't do it now. Better go to the Philippines and know her background first.

I'm a Filipina based in Bangkok, also lived in UK, relocated due to work. The suggestions to bring her to Thailand and process via VFS is 🚫⛔. Even going to Thailand for the first time just to get through to the Philippines immigration is most likely she will be denied. The VFS in Makati can do a better job once she's all set with requirements.

Your wife's first hurdle - does she have a job? stable income in the Philippines? If none, it's a huge problem. Mostly the reasons why applications get denied. Hence, they use agencies, pay ££££ a lot of money to bring their gf, wife to UK as long term (agencies fronting as employer or insurance on behalf of the applicant) and only 5% of these applications are approved.

I'm only pointing out that it's a mistake for those who are bringing their partner first time outside the country as a "fiancee/sponsor visa". The Philippine Immigration and VFS are totally no-no, they frown upon on, automatically doubtful on this set up since it has been going on for years. They are tired of human trafficking, mail order brides, employers abuse stories that's why they are so rigid with Filipina going overseas first time especially with a foreign partner financing everything.

Let them be tourists first, go to easy EU countries that are lax in visa, attend workshops and conferences as business trips and come back as normal. Once that's established, it will be easier for them to get approved - I know this advice is not sensible for those who have limited resources and timeline. Goodluck, it's a long way to go.

Not sure for UK but to take my wife to the USA hit took around 14 months to get a visa four years ago

usually have to show 6 months of her bank records, proof of how she earned the money, then also tax records for the past 3 years and also proof of reason to come home which would be ownership of land, employment, children, sick family etc

I think you’ll need to apply back in the Phillipenes I was told to apply for my Khmer girlfriend in her country not Thailand

My question was more along the lines of does she need to show personal funds

I don't think it would hurt. It helps if she is employed and they don't think she is coming into the country for sex work. So if you can prove she has a job here or is independently self-sufficient or that you have enough to cover her all of her expenses and travel plus medical costs etc. then that will work out in your favor.

I’ve had lots of illogical hoops to jump through to get her to Thailand. Maybe they would be concerned that I was locked up after a couple of days for anti social behaviour and she didn’t have access to my substantial funds 🙄😁

proof of funds on your end is either, 62k in savings in the bank. Or bank statements and payslips for the last 6 months showing you earn at least 18k a year. Look at my other comment above for fuller evidence to provide. It’s a ball ache to get her to the U.K. She may well have to apply from the Philippines instead of Thailand (not sure). Where are you in Thailand? The VFS office in Chiang Mai is probably the best office in Thailand to apply from.

thanks Karim

I’m in Chaing Mai and have paid for the application

The situation is simple really, I have a regular uk income above the amount you mentioned and she has nothing 🙄

We have been together for a couple of years and I just want a sensible assessment

the, she has nothing is pretty normal. You will have to get creative to prove she has good reason to return. In your situation, I would recommend using a visa agent. I tried to do ours the first try and it was denied, even though I felt like I provided everything that was asked for. If you need me to recommend someone, I can. The agents know what immigration want to see. They will know beforehand if the application is likely to pass.
Karim ***************
Remember, it’s just as important to show she has ample reasons to return back to the Philippines, as it is to prove you have funds. Probably more important. If she has a car or property in her name, show proof of that. If she has a job (much better for her), show proof of that. Show her bank statements with regular payments from work. If she has dependents like children or elderly parents, show their ID’s. Show all the airline tickets you’ve purchased from going to visit her, photos of you two together on your trips, screen shots of conversations on Fb, text message etc. show it’s a valid relationship and that she will return.

great reply , did exactly same with my missus , but took bloody ages , !

@Rob *******
it’s a ball ache, right! I got a refusal first time, because I didn’t want to pay for an agent. I thought I had sent everything that was asked of me. In the end, used an agent and got accepted. A friend just went through the process and it does seem to be taking a while at the moment. And you can’t pay for fast track anymore either.

the embassy is closed in Bangkok so everything goes through an agency , can’t remember name but you’ll find out . Then gets sent to British embassy in London , takes time , they have a huge backlog because of Ukrainian applicants and obviously Europe stuff , Dee finally got her visa after they had lost her passport when I was back in Thailand in November , and it runs out in January , but anyway that’s why it takes so long
Karim ***************
@Rob *******
my applications went to the British Embassy in Mumbai, when I did it a couple of years ago. But yes you’re right, the Ukraine situation is what’s prolonging the process now.
