Pushing the everything else line because this group is generally not very toxic and I appreciate that... Is malaria like...a real thing here? I know that may sound silly but coming from the states it's sort of a romanticized disease and nobody there gets it. Is it a real thing here and do you just go into the doctor?

Hi I was curious what everyone’s thoughts are regarding vaccinations when visiting or living in Thailand! Since there aren’t any mandatory vaccinations I’m interested to see what people are getting, if any at all. Thanks in advance!

Hi, my friend was due to leave Thailand (visa expiring) on Thursday, and she’s just come down with dengue fever. She’s in hospital. We’re on an island and she can’t get to an immigration office, let alone the border. Anyone have experience getting an extension or exemption under such a circumstance? Over the phone? She wants to be able to return in future so doesn’t want a red stamp, but she’s way too sick to travel now (or even use her phone, so I’m posting for her!) Advice appreciated. (She’s on a tourist visa, already extended. Nearest imm office is Samui (different island) in case that makes a difference...)

I am an in-patient in hospital with Dengue on an IV. My SETV finish on 12 (2 days). The doctor says he is happy to write whatever he needs to inform immigration, as currently I am only getting worse. He told me to find out is there a form he needs to use or anything specific he needs to write. My local immigration is Samui. I am a UK passport holder. TIA

My friend has a 30 day overstay on a tourist visa due to a combination of dengue fever and a scooter accident. She does not have a hospital certificate. Would it be better for her to go to samui immigration to pay the overstay fine, and apply for a retroactive 30 day extension (she was too sick to go to samui for her extension before) Or should she just book a flight out of the country tomorrow and pay the fee at the border. Is there a chance she would not be allowed back in after a 30 day overstay?
