What should my friend do about her 30-day overstay on a tourist visa in Thailand due to health issues?

My friend has a 30 day overstay on a tourist visa due to a combination of dengue fever and a scooter accident. She does not have a hospital certificate. Would it be better for her to go to samui immigration to pay the overstay fine, and apply for a retroactive 30 day extension (she was too sick to go to samui for her extension before) Or should she just book a flight out of the country tomorrow and pay the fee at the border. Is there a chance she would not be allowed back in after a 30 day overstay?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses a friend's situation regarding a 30-day overstay on a tourist visa caused by dengue fever and a scooter accident. The community advises her to either pay the overstay fine directly at the airport upon exiting or visit the Samui immigration office. However, there is skepticism about the effectiveness of seeking a retroactive extension given she does not have a medical certificate. Most commenters agree that leaving the country is preferable, noting that immigration officers typically do not care about the reasons for an overstay, and confirm that an overstay fee of 500 baht per day will apply.

The answer you (or your 'friend') were given OVER and OVER is either book a flight out or go to a land border and exit the country. The immigration officers don't care what the reason is for the overstay. Face it you're not the first foreigner here to overstay in this country.

When you stamp out of the country, pay 500 baht a day, so 30X500=15,000 baht right now. You WILL get an overstay stamp in your passport. It won't affect you getting a new visa at a thai consulate.

Seeing as you've gotten the same advice from this group AND the thai visa forum, I think you know what you need to do.

I can't see anyone offering any more constructive advice that what you've been given. You know what to do, no go do it.

Entry bans start after 90 days overstay, providing she isn’t arrested or randomly asked to show her passport. She should leave and pay the fine at the airport.

Agreed

Too sick to go for an extension, but not too sick to be on a scooter ?

Which of her friends diagnosed her with dengue fever ? Why did she not go to hospital ? How did she have a scooter accident if she was debilitated with dengue fever ? You posted on ThaiVisa too, and the facts are the same, pay the fine and leave.

That sucks for your friend. I'm curious why she doesn't have med cert?

The minimum charge is 500 baht per day and the maximum is 20,000 baht if she overstayed for 40 or more days. She could contact the immigration, they will advise on the best way.

Nalinmard Sriphum , that is not required, she is better off to book a flight out, pay the fee a airport and come back, on the way in she would have a good reason, an onward tikcet, booked an accomodation and THB 20,000.- on her.

Samui is not the friendliest office as I understand out of the comments. If it is 30 days or more retroactive extension is not a solution because she still have to leave directly. Book an International flight, pay at the airport 500 Thb a day fine is as far as I know the best option. If she wants to come back apply for a new visa first, to get into Thailand is up to the discretion of the Immigration Officers, normally it is not a big problem but be prepared for some questions.
