I got my first 1 year extension today. I did my internet research and I follow this FB group closely but there were still a few things that surprised me. I arrived in Thailand last year on a Non-Immigrant O-A visa based on being over 50 years old. I have a multiple entry permit. I went to Bangkok Immigration. Here is what surprises and/or mistakes I made in my preparation:

1. They only needed 1 copy of my documents. I thought I needed 3 copies but no.

2. They wanted a specific form letter from Kasikorn about my bank balance. Just having a print out of the last few months of my account was not enough though they kept that too.

3. They wanted a copy of my passbook with a recent transaction so I withdrew 1000 baht while at immigration.

4. They did want the personal statement that is one of the 3 forms Tod Daniels has posted on this site.

5. They wanted a copy of the stamp for my last multiple entry permit in my passport.

6. I did need a hand drawing of the location of my residence which I, luckily, did the night before.

Observations: The officer I met was very thorough and efficient. Once my documents were in process I could go to the bank or copy shop and return without waiting in line to see the officer again. I really have no complaints about the staff. They were working hard and were very professional. The officer spoke no english but I clearly understood what she wanted me to do.

I did not need to hire anyone to help me. It was Friday. The lines were long. I arrived before 8am and left at 14:20. No surprises there.

Hi, My husband and I are considering to apply for the OA Visa but I am over 50 and he is not. Do we require Each 800,000 Thb or combined ? Is it better to apply this in my home country(Singapore) but my husband is not from Sg or is it easier to get it in Thailand once you arrived on a tourist visa? Thank you for all the answers. It would help me sort out the finances before applying.
