To quality for an extention of 1 year to my 90 non immigrant O permission to stay in thailand based on marriage I must submit my marriage certificate in thailand. My marriage certificate is a uk one. Has anyone just submitted a uk certificate or did you have to get it legalizes in the uk first and them do anything else with it.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend your Non-Immigrant O visa based on marriage in Thailand, it is typically required to submit a Thai version of your marriage certificate alongside other documents. While your original UK marriage certificate may have been accepted for the initial visa application, Thai immigration prefers a certified Thai marriage certificate. This involves visiting your local Amphur to understand the requirements for obtaining a Thai certificate and Kor ror 2. Many expats in the community highlighted the bureaucratic challenges and costs involved, suggesting that due diligence at the Amphur could help clarify what documents need to be prepared for a smoother extension process.

Per the other poster, visit your Amphur first and find out what they want. Take detailed notes because you will forget everything they want. Take a Thai speaker and hopefully they know good English. Going through the same process too. It's a pain in the butt and you will spend several thousand baht on translations. Crazy stupid! I'm taking

advice and will probably just get remarried in Thailand. Will visit the Amphur before I go to BKK to get my marriage authorization to verify what I need to get married. Certifying marriage cert by the US embassy will cost me $50 US. If the Amphur needs my passport certified too that's another $50! Plus plane tickets and hotel/food. Getting married in Thailand is one big money making scheme. Oh, let's not forget the

actually you can do whatever you want with the bt400,000 after you get your one year extension stamp under type O Thai wife. The only requirement is that it be back in your account at least two months before your next extension.

You sure? I've read that it has to stay there all year. What am I confused about? or is it another case of wrong info? If I can use it that would be great! Plan to take the wife to the US before the end of next year anyway but, you know, things can change.

, I know a foreigner having a Thai wife. He was asked why he didn’t use his 400,000 Baht the whole year. He answered that he has other income.

retirement visa has different requirements. For a retirement visa extension you need bt800,000 in your account for at least two months, then for three more months after you get your stamp, then after those three months you can use some of the money, but the balance can never drop below bt400,000 for the rest of the year, and brought back up to the bt800,000 at least two months before the next year's extension.

A marriage visa extension requires bt400,000 in your account for at least two months before you apply, and here is where the difference is, as soon as you get your one year extension stamp you can do anything you want with all the money. It only has to be in your account at least two months before your next year's extension.

I think that is what confused me. Too many damn visa requirements in Thailand!

The OP specifically said about UK marriage certificate. US probably has a way different system.

I was speaking about what the Amphur will want. They all want the authorization to marry regardless of one's nationality or whether you are married here or your home country. Mine MAY want my passport certified. I heard it mentioned once but didn't ask for clarification so I'm going back to ask more questions since now I'm spending more money to give them what they want. It's getting ridiculous.

The UK embassy does not certify marriage certificates any longer. You have to have it certified in Milton Keynes and then sent to the Thai embassy in London.

We also had to get our UK marriage cert certified then sent to thai embassy - it was accepted for my non o application

The Legalisation Office in Milton Keynes will forward it on to the Thai Embassy if you include a prepaid envelope. Cuts down the time.

Thanks for the info.... what im struggling with is I applied for a non immigrant O visa through the uk royal thai embassy and submitted an original copy of my uk marriage certificate. This was accepted. The one year extension is an extension of the original permit to stay. So why the thai cert and stuff.

you will need to have your marriage license certified as being real by your embassy, then get it translated into Thai, then get that translation stamps as being accurate by the ministry of foreign affairs. Then you take it to the local Amphur to get it registered. Or, you get the right to marry letter, check the appropriate box, single, widowed, or divorced, the last to need supporting documents, but they don't check. Get this notarized at your embassy, then simply get married again here. It is not illegal to do, as you are not marrying a different person.

@Kool ******
Of course it's illegal - you're signing a sworn statement that is knowingly and undeniably false, which is a felony. Are you likely to be prosecuted? No. Is it legal? Absolutely not.

You will need to have your marriage recognised in Thailand, visit your Amphur office for what they need to create a Thai certificate and Kor ror 2.

Thai immigration will want a Thai certificate and Kor ror 2 plus a boat load of other documents to grant your extension

I'm no expert just a married farang

@Greg *******
no Thai certificate required it is a certified and translated copy of U.K. original to produce a kor ror 2 2
