Hello dear community,

I have yet another question! I got married about 1.5y ago in Phuket and I am returning to Europe in a few months. In order for my country to recognise the marriage certificate, I have to legalise it through the Thai government before I can legalise it at my embassy. Is this done at the Thai Ministry of Foreign affairs? If so, do I just show up there and wait until it is my turn? And does anyone know if it could be finished the next day?

 sorry, still have a question... I read that the thai marriage certificate has to be renewed every year at the local amphur. I got married at the Phuket District office in town. Do you know if I can just show up there in the morning to get it renewed or do I need an appointment? Tried to call them, it's disconnected...

 You are not renewing it. You are getting a current dated one showing you are still legally married. You can go to any district or sub-district office in the country to get it. You do not need to go to the office that registered your marriage. It is a nationwide online system. Tell them you need a Kor Ror 2. They will print it out and sign it. The cost is 20 baht. You should not need an appointment. Just go to the office, get a queue (if they have them) and ask for the form. Once it is your turn it should only take a few minutes.

I do not understaand your question. My Thai marriage certificate has been translated into English with a stamp from Thai Government. That is accepted and recognised in Australia.

 The Netherlands like to taunt their citizens by making things incredibly complicated. I need to legalise it first by Thai authority and then take that to the Dutch embassy to legalise it again and then I will have tor register it officially in the Hague upon the return. Yes, insane indeed

I would like to do it myself by going to Bangkok for a few days. Only thing I need to know is if it is the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and if it is that, whether or not I need to make an appointment or just show up in the morning and queue.

 It is better for the visa agent to take the English translation to the ministry because they are well known to the staff there and their translations are trusted by the Ministry staaff. sure, you can take it yourself, but expect out of the normal scruteny.

 OK. I took my Thai Marriage Certificate to a visa agent. They had it tranlated into english (500 thb) and then they took it to the Thai ministry who stamped the translation (cost, soory I forget). That would be your first step.
