TLDR : Answer Summary
The Australian Marriage Certificate is generally accepted for obtaining a 90-day Non-O visa at a Thai consulate in another country. However, for yearly extensions of stay within Thailand, some immigration offices may require the certificate to be translated into Thai, certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and registered with the local Amphur. It's advisable to check with the specific immigration office for their requirements regarding the marriage certificate.

Is it possible to get a 1 year multiple entry non Imm O based on marriage from Vientienne and Savannakhet?

That’s what Tod just mentioned.

from Savannakhet yes, from Vientiane no :/ BUT remember on a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa you have to "border-bounce" every 90 days for the duration of the visa, and the O/P has not problem meeting the financial requirements so that's why I recommended they just get a 90 day single entry Non-O from a thai consulate instead, and then go for the year extension inside the country

@Pe***
, you do not get a 30 day visa on arrival or a 30 day tourist visa you get into the country on a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp.

You need 15 days or more left on that stamp to apply for a 90 day Non-O inside the country. You cannot get a one week extension because there is no such thing, that is an extension denied 7 days to get out of thailand stamp for 1900baht and you can't apply for any visa once you get that stamp.

You will have a far easier time taking the marriage certificate, the thai i/d of your wife and her house book listing to the thai consulate in either Vientiane or Savannakhet Lao and getting a 90 day Non-O visa issued in a day.

You turn in your paperwork one morning and you pick up the passport with the visa in it the next afternoon. Neither of those consulates require proof of funds, OR any other documentation than what I mentioned.

Then once you come back on that 90 day visa you can apply for the yearly extension at your immigration office.

Peter, IF you are going to a thai consulate in another country to get your 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on marriage no it does not need to be translated

IF you are using the marriage certificate to get a 90 day Non-O visa or a yearly extension at the thai immigration office inside the country GO THERE and ask them the requirements before you apply. Some require it be translated and certified, some require a notary from your consulate and some done. CHECK first.

...but Foreign Marriage Certificate has to be translated into Thai?

That’s what I wanted to hear. Thank you kindly.

Rmemeber IF you're going to try to get a 90 day Non-O inside the country at the immigration office you need to go there FIRST and see if your marriage certificate needs translating into thai and certified by the MFA office here. It goes without saying you'd also have to meet the financial requirements

I am aware of that. I just wanted to know if I can make up my mind about my future while in Thailand on a visit. I get 30 day visa on arrival every time from Australia.

So by rights, I can get a one week extension after 3 weeks of holiday and then submit all necessary paperwork to any local Immigration Office in Thailand to gain a Non O Marriage visa.

I have Thai bank account with necessary funds and my wife’s Blue Book.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I would like to make that decision while I am in Thailand.

Can I also get a NonO visa while being in Thailand on a 30 day tourist visa?
Tod *********
There is no such thing as a 30 day tourist visa ;) you are talking about a 30 day visa exempt entry :)
Tod *********
You can apply for a 90 day Non-O inside of thailand at the immigration office when you have 15 days or more remaining on your current admitted until stamp (from a visa exempt entry or a tourist visa entry). That's because it goes under consideration for 14 days before you go back and get the Non-O and the 90 day stamp inked into your passport.

@Peter **********
, Like I said your australian marriage certificate will be accepted at a thai consulate in another country to get a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage to a thai

And you need to check with the immigration office you're going to use for your yearly extension to see what if anything needs to be done with it so you can use it here. I mentioned what some offices required already

Chaengwattana accepted our UK marriage certificate in English, although it had to be legalised and the legalisation had to be certified by the Thai Embassy in London.
Tod *********
@He***
, correct, only people married in the UK jump thru those b/s hoops where you send it to Milton Keynes, then to the thai embassy and then back to you. No one else has to do that.
Henry *********
@Tod ********
does that mean that other foreign marriage certificates don't need to be legalised in the country where they were issued?
Peter ***********
ORIGINAL POSTER
I am talking about being married to a Thai.
Tod *********
@Henry ********
, the legalization that brits go thru on marriage certificates from the UK is far and away more convoluted than what anyone else goes thru when they're married abroad.

Does that mean that my Australian Marriage Certificate is excepted in Thailand?

Edit: this was for the purpose of adding my wife to my Extension of Stay.
Tod *********
you can use it to get a Non-O visa at a thai consulate in another country without a problem.

Now as far as getting a yearly extension of stay inside the country some offices want it translated into thai, certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office AND want you and your wife to go to your Amphur and register that a thai got married abroad with the Kor Ror 22 form (ค.ร. ๒๒) too. Check with the immigration office where you will be getting the extension of stay

Both

and are you trying to get a visa at a thai consulate in another country or inside the country at the immigration office?
