TLDR : Answer Summary
The money must be transferred to a Thai bank account in your name from abroad to meet the 400k requirement for the 90-day Non-O visa. You can use a foreign currency account to prove funds, and there is no necessity to convert it to Thai Baht.

You WILL have to prove that the money was transferred into a thai bank account in your name only from abroad. I know people who use foreign currency accounts to meet the proof of funds, so there is no need to move it to a thai baht account (seeing as that would be a domestic transfer and not qualify for the Non-O)
