Hi, I am just opening my Thai bank account and wondered if anyone had advice on cheapest way of transferring large sums into the account. I can use Swift from my uk bank and have Wise and Revolut but open to any suggestions to minimise charges. Many thanks for any reply

Hi guys 🙂, I am a British citizen and would like to transfer a large sum of money into a Thai bank account from a UK bank, before I go to the bank and ask direct I was just curious if any body has any information in regards to transfer fees typically in Thailand ? Do Thai banks charge a “landing fee” or is it a percentage based on how much your transferring..? Any positive advise would be much appreciated.

Has anyone worked out the cheapest way to transfer money from the UK to Thailand? Some say Wise, but that's 1% plus the ATM fee (and 1-2% Visa rate margin), or 2% bank to bank (in practise I'm charged 1.25% fee, but plus 1.5% or so on the rate). Some say Moneygram but their rate looks worse although I've not been able to register. Someone said normal bank Swift can be cheaper for large amounts. I haven't started to work that out bank by bank, but certainly in the past elsewhere Swift had been much more than Wise around the $10,000 mark and below. Bank of Bangkok also allow you to transfer by BACS to their London branch, although their rate probably has a margin added. Currently looking like Wise withdrawing as much as the ATM will allow. (Or bringing suitcases of cash for Superrich seems popular. They're margins are tiny but they charge 2.5% for cards.)

Asking for my bro. He has a building society account in Uk (nationwide), has opened a bank account successfully (Bangkok), he cannot transfer money into Thai bank because IBAN and Swift not work, is this a normal problem?. I can get him to transfer money into my UK account and pay into my Thai account but want to know if building society is the issue here. TIA.

Making this it's own question as I need a quicker response.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on the transfer but there's a new twist I'll get to later.

Using Wise, how do they remove the money from the USA bank account, by ACH? If the Thai baht is already in Thailand and just deposited by Wise, is it still shown as an overseas transfer, which seems to be important for the non-o visa? This is a usd transfer from America to KrungSri bank in Thailand. Thank you.

Edit - also, wise indicates it will be deposited within two days. What would be typical?
