TLDR : Answer Summary
The Foreign Currency Deposit account at Bangkok Bank offers several advantages including no charges if the balance is above US$250, favorable exchange rates compared to other providers, and higher interest earnings than typical Thai accounts. Users can exchange dollars to baht at a beneficial rate during fluctuating markets. However, there are drawbacks such as in-person deposit requirements that necessitate passport presentation and extensive documentation, and online banking restrictions that limit usability to computers only.

I use my BKK bank, it’s the only way for me…easy to top up on line from my Aussie bank account

Fully recommend having one, earns more interest than a Thai account, we still get 2% paid in AUD. When changing over to Thai baht, you get the buy TT rate, plus we have a Bangkok bank gold VIP so get a extra 0.75 on top of that. A very worthwhile account.

As long as you keep your balance above US$250 there is no charge. When you transfer dollars into your baht account it is at the TT rate, better than Superrich exchange rate, and better than the rate at the bank. It is protected by not allowing transfers from your cellphone, in case it was stolen or lost. The downside is in person deposits into the account, as it takes your passport, and a bunch of document signing. You can only do online banking with it from a laptop, or desktop computer. Because the baht fluctuates you can choose when you want to exchange dollars to baht.

I cannot transfer from the deposit account to my fixed account using the app. There is no transfer costs from SS to the deposit account.
