I did it during Covid and no issues whatsoever. Gave me chance to get on the bike in the morning and was in a hotel by 1pm ready to go on Teams. Used to finish a little early and still be able to get food and a beer.

Yes, Non immigrant or resident visa is required to apply for a work permit and an Ed Visa is a non immigrant visa so theoretically you can.
