Hello Everyone,

I am 20years old and currently a dual citizen Thai and British and was wondering about this Service Liabilty Letter on my Uk army application. It says about proof of not being called back for national service. Although I’ve just recently finished my 1 year national service with documents saying I’ve finished my duty.

The British army still won’t accept it.

Any help would be appreciated, Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual inquiring about their UK Army application needs clarification on obtaining a Service Liability Letter regarding their previous Thai national service. Despite having completed their service, the British Army requires documented proof to confirm that they are not subject to any future call-up or reserve obligations with the Thai military. Suggestions from the community advise obtaining an official letter from the Thai military, ensuring it is properly translated and stamped, and exploring potential legislation regarding dual citizenship to support their application.

Send me the letter you received and I’ll make some enquiries for you as to what exactly is required.

I may be wrong, but I think there is a rule that prevents you serving with the Thai military if you have served with the military of another country. Basically removing any call-up/reserve liability from the point you sign up and take your Oath of Allegiance with the British Army. You may be able to show that legislation to the recruiters (if it exists). Worth exploring

Check Thai citizenship group maybe someone there with previous experience and they also have page about NS obligations/requirements

British Army will not accept you until you have a written guarantee that there is no reservist call up attached to your Thai National service.

I believe you will need a letter from the Thai military stating that you have finished your Thai military service or are not required and as such you will not be called upon in the future. This will then need to be translated with the appropriate stamp.
