Hi. Asking for a friend. He has been granted an E Visa Type Non Immigrant "O" 90 day multi entry from the Royal Thai Embassy in Ottawa Canada.

Question he is asking is can he go to the local immigration office in Korat and apply for a yearly extension based on retirement when he has 30 days left. He has the 800k baht in his own Thai bank account so that's not an issue.

He is arriving in 2 weeks time and I have already advised him to file a TM30 the next day. He is married to a Thai so no issues with filing a TM30.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Your friend can apply for a yearly extension based on retirement at the local immigration office in Korat when he has 30 days or less remaining on his current Non-O visa. It's noted that despite having a multi-entry 90-day visa, he can still file for the extension as long as he meets the requirements, including having 800,000 baht in his Thai bank account. Additionally, it is important to file a TM30 after arrival. Some users questioned the issuance date of the visa, citing an apparent future date, but this is not relevant to the extension process.

, may I ask how your friend could get that visa issued on "01 Dec 2023" (future date)? I have never seen a visa or eVisa with an issued date in the future.

Ellie Takei, I had also one in the future, same date as my flight ticket.

can't really answer that. Maybe when he applied he gave an entry date for Thailand on his application. He actually applied for the E Visa early October.

If he was going to apply for an in country year extension based on retirement why did he buy a year-long multi-entry Non-O visa?

He can bounce out and back every 90 days for the next 15 months and not have to get a year extension.

AND

he can apply for the yearly extension on ANY of those 90 day entry stamps when he has 30 days or less left on that stamp and meets the requirements

Once he's here, send him to the Korat office to get their hand out listing the requirements for the year extension based on being over 50, then when he has 30 days or less left on his stamp he can go apply for the year extension for 1900baht with the correct documentation.

Thanks Tod. He normally just comes in on the 30 day exempt stamp then extends for another 30 days then maybe a border bounce after that to give himself 90 days in total. He's been doing that for the last 7 years since he's been married as he is still working in Canada for 6 to 9 month a year. He decided this time to apply for the visa as it gives him 90 days continuous stay before he has to leave but wants to get an extension of stay before he goes back in early March, it's all about timing at the moment.

And maybe tell him that the Canadian Embassy also still hands out an income statement. If that is more than 65k฿, maybe just a tip instead of the 800k in the bank.

shouldn't have any issue, have him get the hand out from Korat listing the requirements after he gets here so he can go and get it done in one try 🙂
