TLDR : Answer Summary
If you've missed the deadline for your 30-day tourist visa extension in Thailand by 5 days, it's recommended to go to the local immigration office immediately. You'll need to pay an overstay fine of 500 baht per day, cumulative for the number of days overstay. After settling the fine, you can apply for a 30-day extension for 1,900 baht. Note that the extension will start from the original expiration date, but you will be considered legal to stay until your departure date.

The Police in Phuket now have surveillance cameras in some of their police cars that detect overstayers in real time - not scaremongering, true fact. Do as Tod recommends

Do as Todd instructs. If you get caught in overstay by police you can be arrested and deported which isn't the experience you'd want.
i have heard of police showing up to arrest foreigners on overstay at their guesthouses, which they can see if you file a new TM30 on an expired visa. Someone might want to confirm that.
and they will not care if you are a pensiuner or mother teresa, if they catch you it will be off to immigration lockup and deportation at your own expense.

Go to the immigration office in the area where you stay TOMORROW,
Pay the overstay fines at 500baht a day (so tomorrow if you're 6 days over that's 3k baht)
then
apply for the 30 day extension for 1900baht.
They'll start the extension the date your current stamp ran out,
BUT
you'll be 'legal' and able to stay on that extension until you're leaving
