BKK has a 'branch' in NYC. I use them from he US bank to here.

Go to Bangkok Bank. They have an office in NYC, so it is easy to transfer funds. Do take no for an answer. Just try a different branch, time of day, day of the week, a different person... you know the usual Thai way.

Can I extend my Non-O visa for a year in Thailand, and is health insurance required?

You could also contact an agent and let them deal with the details regarding the children and the visa options that that implies. No insurance is required for the renewal on a Non 'O' visa.
