 When you return from Vietnam, you won’t get a 30-day visa, you would get a visa-exempt stamp (no visa) in your passport good for 30 days.

 not all immigration offices will let you get an extension shortly after you arrive. Some will tell you to come back on the last week. Check with Immigration first.
