I suggested to Barry Harvey, it's better to buy something in the area you spend the most time in, because if you have any problems, you can go back to his shop and he will sort it out for you, I've had mine almost two years, a couple weeks ago it just went off, I thought it had died, I thought ohhh well, I've had my money's worth out of it, but when I returned to the shop, it was the plug!! (It steps down the voltage to the box) He gives a guarantee, but it had expired, so I had to just buy a plug for ฿200 baht, he also rebooted and updated the box, and checked everything was working okay all included, so happy days again 😅🇹🇭😎

he had all different boxes to choose from, between ฿2000 and ฿3000 baht fully loaded, I remember him setting it up, by selecting your home country 🇬🇧 from a menu, so you can also view all the local channels, it's just basically an android box loaded up with all these apps, so that you can view all the sky sports and movie channels and a lot more, I watch movies and sports everyday for free, movies that are still on the cinema, you can subscribe to things like Amazon prime, Netflix or IPTV, but you just don't need them, when I bought mine there was a group of Aussie fellas, all buying boxes to watch the rugby league from back home, so it seems they are good for everyone, you just need a good internet connection.

@Barry *******
with that android box I suggested, you don't need to connect to a VPN.

There is a good little shop in tuk-com in Pattaya, he sells android boxes, you just need an internet connection, all the sky sports, movie channels and UK TV channels are available, and a lot more for free, it's just plug and play, he speaks English and gives you a demonstration, it's better to buy one where you spend most of your time, because sometimes after a while the box needs up dating, I've got one and I'm very happy with it.

You get an IDP from your home country, if you spend a lot of time in Thailand, you can convert your home country licenses, into Thai licenses by completing a simple colour blind and reaction test at the DLT.

you might already be aware of this, but a well known agent in Pattaya is now stating this, I'm assuming it depends on what visa they have.

A very well known Pattaya agent, is saying they cannot open a bank account for someone under the age of 50 years old, I'm assuming they are talking about someone on a short-term visa, but I don't know all the details, this new rule was only introduced two weeks ago.

just over a year ago, they changed all their rules and regulations, stating only people on long-term visas could open an account, that in itself doesn't make sense, because people that want to apply for a (in the country) non O visa, and do to the 12 month extension of stay based on retirement "for instance" needs to have the money seasoned for two months at "jomtien" immigration, so if they was 49 years old, and wanting to do this, now they can't, but agents could always facilitate this, it seems like it's going to be more and more difficult to do things in the country, also depending on which immigration office you choose, I wouldn't be surprised if this has something to do with the new DTV visa, I reckon lots of younger people have been trying to open accounts, because if you spend a lot of time in Thailand, it's much better to have a local bank account, even though the DTV is a 5 year visa, some people are labelling it as a glorified tourist visa.

I think it was ฿4000 agent fee, ฿700 payable to the bank for the ATM MasterCard, the agent will accompany you to the bank, you just need to fill out a form, it is recommended you always keep a balance of ฿2000, so your account will never be closed, it's very easy you don't even queue up at the bank.
