Got the notice from Bangkok Bank. Called their customer service line and told them all my stuff matches. They didn’t have an answer. Someone called me back the next day and said I had to go prove ownership of my number and get a letter from my mobile carrier. Take it to the branch and provide the details and the letter. Wasted my time and spent 3 hours doing this and the bank employee said that, as I suspected, all of my information matched. Bangkok Bank app still locked me out today. Did what they required me to do to keep the app from locking but they still did it anyways.
have you done the tax resident paperwork with your bank ? Once you do then you can come respond again. I have and the documents clearly state that if I am a full time tax resident of USA which I am then I am not subject to the tax residency here in Thailand. I don’t know which country you are from but the 180 days means nothing being from the USA. We never lose tax residency status in the USA. Not on a work permit so no tax status in Thailand.
Mike, you can’t do the Non-Immigrant O visa by using the monthly income as your initial issuance. You have to use the 800k in Thai bank account method. The Thai immigration doesn’t accept any social security payment documentation. Now on your 2nd issuance you can show but you would have to start the 65k the month before you get your first because you have to show 12 months of deposits in a Thai bank account for when you do the renewal. They have to show as international transfers and even that is becoming more difficult because the banks transfer the money in strange ways that doesn’t show up as international transfers except for wire transfers or direct deposits. Based on the payment date which is the 3rd day of each month for USA social security it would never fall outside a month. Still not easy
not true at all. He would never lose his USA residency for tax purposes even if he stayed away from 10 years. Unless he is making money in Thailand which he can’t do on a Non-Immigrant visa he is not a tax resident of Thailand. I guess you haven’t done the paperwork with your Thai bank yet as you would know this once you do that paperwork.
the specific home country is the detail you miss. I don’t have a work permit in Thailand and the USA taxes my income where ever it is made. I am on a non-immigrant visa and a full time tax resident of the USA. The 180 days is irrelevant for USA citizens that don’t work and earn money in Thailand.
Their documentation was clear that I had to fill in at the bank. It asked if I was still a tax citizen of my home country. Well the USA requires citizens anywhere in the world and no matter how long removed to file tax returns. I guess some of the other countries use that 180 day limit of being outside their country to say you are no longer a resident tax citizen. All USA citizens will remain tax citizens no matter how long they stay away from the US. After that question was answered that was it for me as I was not considered a resident tax payer for Thailand.
you use your Thai bank account statement and letter from the bank saying you met the 65,000 baht minimum each month for the 12 months prior to renewal which means 13-14 months. Since your renewal will be a month or two before your 1 year expires. One key thing is to ensure the bank deposits are flagged as “international deposits” because companies like Western Union doing debit card deposits aren’t recorded as international transfer.
All online application and submitted through mail. No visit for passport renewals now. Just did one in March and we had it in our possession in less than 3 weeks.
The 50,000 limit was for spending transactions if you didn’t do the extra biometric face scan step. If you haven’t done this step at the branch you can’t transfer out more than 50,000. After you complete this step when you do a larger transfer the app will require facial scan to prove it’s you.
