I’m half American- lived there for half my adult life. Its one of the most heavily trafficked land borders in the world so they saved resources. Coming into obviously was different, but leaving they didnt care.

not entirely true if you leave thru Tijuana land border they don’t stamp you out so there’s no record of your leaving date. But generally most folks fly out.
