Since Thailand is talking again about changing their 60 day policy to 30 days , I’d end up doing a 30 + 30 day extension when travelling there later this year.
Are there any repercussions for overstaying by 1 or 2 days ?
Looking at flights and with my dates it’s a better deal to stay the 61 or 62 days.
Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
Overstaying a visa in Thailand, even by a day or two, can have repercussions. Penalties typically include a fine of 500 baht per day, payable upon exiting the country. While most travelers report no significant issues for brief overstays, being caught by immigration or police can lead to detention and possible bans from re-entry. It’s advisable to avoid overstaying, and staying within the allocated time on your visa or tourist exemption is recommended for hassle-free travel.
Overstay starts the day after your visa/exemption expires. 500 baht a day up to 20,000 baht. No affect if less than 90 days. However, if you wish to get a DTV or similar in the future the application asks if you have ever overstayed. This may result in a DTV rejection so try avoid overstaying if possible.
If you overstay by a couple of days: 1. If you submit to Immigration and pay the designated fine, probably no further problem. 2. If you leave the country after this overstay, Immigration may put an overstay stamp in your passport which may cause you problems if you subsequently try and reenter Thailand. 3. If caught by police or Immigration (maybe even on your way into the departure airport), you would be subject to a prison stay, a big fine and excluded from reentry into Thailand for an extended time. It is never worth overstaying.
If you're stopped by police for any reason and are overstayed by even 1 day you will be put in jail until someone turns up with a ticket out of Thailand then escorted to the plane without a wash or change of clothes in handcuffs and banned from re entering for an unknown period. Do you think it's worth it?
No details of if or when they may change it back to 30 days. Hasn’t happened yet. It may not.
Most don’t have any repercussions of a one or two day overstay and just pay the fine of 500 baht per day on their way out.
The keyword there is most. If you happened to be stopped by police and found on overstay then that opens up a whole can of worms, that could potentially lead to a ban from entering Thailand.
Never plan to overstay. It probably won’t happen to you but if it does you’ll live to regret those can of worms.
