I always keep 200 dollars rolled up in my shoe or other hiding spot for an emergency.

It's enough to get you into a hotel food and buy a cheap phone while you figure out how to deal with whatever problem happened. Have a plan for if your card gets eaten by an ATM or lost.

Never had to use it, as I never had a problem.

ATMs everywhere but currency exchanges can be a bit dodgy in the boonies. Sometimes they won't take old bills or ones with marks or writing on them. Bring new ones.

And not more than 10 thousand.

Is it true you have to show that the money came from out of the country, if so what kinda documentation will they accept?

If one brings cash to put in a Thai bank will a photo of the bills serial numbers work?

it was easier than mailing it all in for sure.

Examples is a great idea.

I took a photo of a couple of post stamped letters to verify my address, but a utility bill should work also.

I did it from my coach in an hour, it's actually pretty simple.

Easier than making a stack of xerox copies and mailing them in with your passport and praying the whole package doesn't get lost.

if the money must come from abroad, what is acceptable documentation if you bring cash...the exchange receipt?

Cool, I can bring most of it with me and do the bank account upon arrival, that seems reasonable.

Thanks again for the help.
