I am an American applying for a non-o marriage visa and am confused about the process.

Does one get a 90 day Visa first and then have that time to deposit 400,000 baht in the bank for the remainder/extension to make it a year,,, or, is the 400,000 necessary before arrival?

Any advice will help, thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
An American applying for a Non-O marriage visa to Thailand is inquiring whether they need to deposit 400,000 baht in a Thai bank before arrival or if they can first obtain a 90-day visa and then deposit the funds. The answers indicate that requirements can vary by consulate; some may require the funds in bank before issuing the visa, while others may allow the deposit to be made after arrival. It is clarified that regardless of the approach, 400,000 baht must be present in a personal Thai bank account for at least two months before applying for the one-year extension based on marriage.

The real question IS

Are you going to buy the 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage from a thai consulate in your country BEFORE you wing your way here

OR

Are you going to come in on a visa exempt/tourist visa entry and then get the Non-O visa from the immigration office here?

You can show proof of funds in your country if you're buying the non-O visa in your country before you come, but if you come here and then go to get the Non-O at the immigration office you need 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only when you apply for the visa.

No matter what way you get the Non-O , once you're here and have the 90 day Non-O visa you will need 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you can apply for the year extension based on marriage

sorry for my confusion, but I'm getting the Non- O marriage visa before leaving (I was warned at the airport not to come back on a tourist visa because I am married).

Please correct me, but I will receive a visa good for 90 days in which time I have a month to get the bank account and seasoned in time for the extention I will apply for before the 90 days runs out?

Cool, I can bring most of it with me and do the bank account upon arrival, that seems reasonable.

Thanks again for the help.

totally correct, the faster you open an account and get the 400K baht in it the sooner you can apply for a year extension from the 90 day stamp you get when you enter on a non-o visa

Spot on, and I obtained my Non-O visa by showing proof of funds in a retirement account, and as soon as I left quarantine opened an account immediately thereafter depositing the requisite B400K. Shortly after sixty days following the date of deposit I submitted the requisite application and documentation for the one year extension. Note two things. Our provincial immigration office had a flow chart and sample documents on the wall of the facility. Paying attention to form and substance will save time and energy later. Also, our bank is very good about issuing the required letter affirming the funds on the day of the submission to immigration and they charge about B200 for the letter. Best of luck to you.

that's the way to pull it off (y) What a good idea for an immigration office to have that on the wall with examples so people can get their shit together before they apply ๐Ÿ™‚

What office was that if you don't mind me asking?

Itโ€™s the Petchabun Provincial immigration office. They do try and make it easy.

Depends on the consulate. SOME consulates require 400K THB in local currency before they issue the Non-O visa, others don't.
