The reason the landlord asked you to is he probably didn't want to pay the fine.

the 800k tbh must be in a THAI bank. There is a Bangkok Bank branch in New York. This gives you a THAI bank and keeps your money in the US and in $ so you aren't subject to currency fluctuations.
Mary ********
The 800k does. I don't think the 65,000 monthly currently has to be in a THAI bank just proof of that level of income. The minute they start requiring that much monthly in a THAI bank I am gone.

Allegedly you are supposed to report when you travel out of the district. A regulation honoured more in the breach than the observance.

that is one place that I recommend a agency. For 1000 baht to avoid dragging out to immigration 4 times a year? No brainer for me.
Mary ********
Off topic but who thought that was a good location? Even the Chinese can't be suckered into going out there.

TM 50 is no longer sufficient? The US accept documents submitted by Thai government and embassies and consulates no "proof" required. This is not specific to US Thailand but international agreements.

OMG don't let Chiang Mai immigration hear this! Another document.

I love it here but hate the immigration hassle in Chiang Mai. I am tired of paying an agency 6000 baht ( plus 1900 for the actual visa extension) but when you try to DIY it is almost impossible. 5 am stand in line and if you aren't among the first 90 come back another day. Changing documentation requirements, some only being requested by this office. So yeah, I feel unwelcome.
