TLDR : Answer Summary
When entering Thailand on a 6-month METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa), you may be asked for proof of funds. While it is not universally required for everyone, immigration officials have the authority to request proof of onward travel, proof of accommodation, and proof of funds, such as 20,000 baht in cash. It's advisable to be prepared with the cash on hand, as showing funds through bank statements or cards may not be accepted.

Okay, one last time, there are TWO times you're likely to be asked for proof of funds. ONE is when you BUY a visa from a thai consulate that requires proof of funds and in this instance you show BANKED MONEY <- a print out of your bank account.
The OTHER instance is when you are stamping IN to thailand and proof of funds is requested by the immigration officer. In this case you show 20K baht (or the equivalent) in CASH <- you CANNOT show a bank account a credit card or anything else. IF you're asked you show CASH.
We're done..

For reference itβs on the Thai MFA site. Section 2.2 Tourist Visa Documents Required.
that's how to get the visa. I need to know what I need to do to enter with a METV visa. As it is we are going to raise flags because we are converting from a retirement visa to a METV while we close up and leave.

ANYONE, <- understand that as ANY PERSON entering thailand CAN be asked for proof of funds, proof of onward travel and proof of a hotel booking when stamping into thailand.
That people have entered without being asked for any of those things does NOT mean everyone won't be asked.
