I can confirm this. I also opened the bank account in Isaan and was able to get a new bankbook in Central Thailand. This was at Bangkok Bank.

What are the requirements for showing proof of funds when applying for a Non-O retirement visa extension in Thailand?

Peter Ng Sending money from abroad to Bangkok Bank for example shows as "FTT" (Foreign Telex Transfer) in the bank book record. This is evidence that the money came from abroad. However, I am not sure how other Thai banks handle that.

Is it necessary to leave Thailand and return to renew a retirement visa if health insurance hasn't been updated?

For a joint bank account you have to show doubled amount i.e. 1,600,000 Baht instead of 800,000 Baht. Or you open a separate bank account with your name only.

Bo, the IDP is valid for maybe 3 years (depends on the issuing country). However in Thailand, the IDP is only valid for at most 3 consecutive months.
