in comparison to Ethiopia, even the devil is honest.

I arrived on a stamp at the airport, set up a bank account, applied for the 3 month and 12-month extension of stay and bought a condo at the same time. I had help from an agent, I suggest u do the same. You can take your money out if its in a thai bank and labelled as FTT.

Take everything you have to immigration, they will be sympathetic, they are pjssed with the extra paperwork too (but they trouser any fine). Legally your landlord should file TM30, he has had enough time to get his act together! You need a lease and ID and all that goes with it.

When I did mine, I had to go to the bank and order a statement which was then signed and stamped by the bank.

Varies by office, but I think u will find u have to watch a video and maybe a reaction test! U do not have to prove that u can ride a bike which demonstrates how fond the Thai's are of us Farangs! Do not be fooled by the advertisers, state which office u will try in and people will recommend an agent.

When you apply for a new 1 year extension of stay I can imagine they will ask for a bank statement showing what balance was keep for the previous year, my belief is that it most never fall below 400k. When i did my 90 day reports they did not ask for bank statements.

The problem is the Indians play "pass the parcel" with the money, so one uses it to get a visa, then withdraw it and give it to someone else etc.

@Ian ******
what is minimum balance, and do they offer credit cards?

I believe that's correct, as of today. Do remember that next year there is a tax change, and this change might ensnare expats.
