Be aware that you will have an income tax bill if you stay in Thailand for more than 180 days.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The message emphasizes that staying in Thailand for over 180 days generally results in an income tax obligation. A commenter questions whether a trip to Malaysia during their 182-day stay would exempt them from this tax, while another commenter humorously doubts how Thai authorities would monitor their income.

Yea sure, and they will find out about my income from what magical place? 😂

Graham HeyesYou’re right that it applies to tax residents, not just citizens, but my point is the same…CRS is about preventing tax evasion by people hiding wealth in foreign accounts. That means, governments of own citizens checking whether they are avoiding taxes okay? Like UNPAID taxes completely.

Your idea that CRS will help Thailand track and tax foreigners income not brought into the country, is incorrect.

even with a law change in Thailand, they still wouldn’t be able to access your full tax data unless you bring the income into Thailand or report it yourself. No country is going to just hand over tax returns or personal financial details. Impossible to enforce anything like it because the laws mentioned are simply not for that purpose, do you get it?

I’ve said it all and I won’t be repeating…feel free to come back to me once first expats get chased to their home country and asked to pay…until then, have a good one

"even if Thailand changes its laws to tax worldwide income, it doesn't mean that EU countries or any other will suddenly start handing over your data." wrong, They have been "handing over data since 1024. "No country is going to just hand over tax returns or personal financial details." wrong, they can access everything, but if you want to claim DTA them you must provide proof that you actually paid tax in the source country, so you will be handing over tax return and receipt for payment otherwise your DTA claim will be denied. Read the last page remarks.

Nope😂 Simply not lol…you’ve already shown lack of understanding of every law you are using here…you’re incompetent and have no say. Obviously, you can trust whatever you want, nothing wrong with that 😂

so you have run out of argument and now you try to insult me.

@Graham ******
hahahahah, what a cheap cringe response, but a classic one from someone who already lost 😂😂 I have not run out of arguments, I have just said it all.

But for a dummy like you, one last time and I’ll keep it short.

CRS allows countries to share info on foreign financial accounts to prevent tax evasion, but it doesn’t include tax returns or all personal financials. Tax evasion in terms of a citizens hiding load of probably illegal money elsewhere. NO TAX REPORTS, NO INCOME REPORTS. It is about someone who is hiding fat accounts.

DTA prevents double taxation, if you pay tax in one country, you can claim a credit in the other and is totally up to you if you use it or not.

CRS and DTA aren't tools to track or tax foreign income unless it’s reported or brought into the country. Those tools are not and never eill be for what you wish it to be lol.

Just don’t be salty and angry that people are now able to stay in the country much easier than you lol…go to gym, beat that hate out of yourself lol

you have completely swapped on every point, I should have charged you for the free education.
Daniel *******
Graham Heyes Nope, I am very consistent and factual. Your CRS delusion is however real. So again, it is to find out what someone has in account, not salary, not tax reports. It is to find what cash is whoever hiding. Read the thing and then come back hm? Because you clearly didn’t do it.

It has Nooooooo information about tax reports, meaning, it has nooooooo way to tell what money I make, except what is in the account at the moment…got it?:-))) The funnies part is, you are arguing about something that is around the globe for dozen years. Thailand joined in 2017 and was fully in alreadt 2 yrs ago.

It’s purpose is not and cannot be showing tax reports, aka, salaries, aka, income…it only shows how much money ia where.

And that is why it is mainly for citizens of that country asking, so they verify whether the person is lying on their tax reports….you should really first educate yourself before you make a dummy of yourself
Daniel *******
@Graham ******
and again, its main purpose is international crime and tax evasion, not chasing individuals to pay taxes in two countries lol 😂😂

And tax evasion means complete tax evasion, aka, crime…not chasing farangs to tax their home income again in thailnd😂

Those requests will be denied and that is why they are never even attempted. Btw, Thailand is part of CRS.

you have to understand that purpose of CRS is not to help with double taxation 😂

Thailnd can enforce taxes on whatever I send to thai bank and that is where it ends, simple as that.

until they write global tax into law. Tax evasion is not necessarily a criminal matter its usually handles as civil law. If you under report your Thai income there is a penalty of 200% charge. Thailand has recently joined CRS. CRS has nothing to do with DTA. Countries do not need to make a request to see am individual's bank accounts. Its all contained in a common database and all countries who are signatures to CRS have access to it. CRS purposes is to detect undisclosed wealth and income. Residents of Thailand will be taxed in the source country and Thailand, DTA allows in most cases the deduction of source tax if such tax has been payed and documented, on;y then can it be duducted agaian Thai tax.
Daniel *******
@Graham ******
You should stop googling to match your bias and start thinking dude😂

CRS doesn’t create some magical global tax database portal where every country can see all your financial details. CRS is specifically about financial accounts held in other countries, and it’s mainly used to prevent tax evasion by people CITIZENS not reporting foreign income. That means THAI people in Thailand, or Germans in Germany, you get it? It is not a tool that will

facilitate foreign country to chase its visitors income from their home country😂

Thailand can’t and won’t start taxing people on foreign income unless it’s being brought into the country.

You are really just projecting some wishes using laws that you are not really familiar with.

"CRS doesn’t create some magical global tax database portal where every country can see all your financial details" wrong, CRS was developed to see into every enties including companies, trusts and personal bank accounts." "specifically about financial accounts held in other countries, and it’s mainly used to prevent tax evasion by people CITIZENS" Wrong, the tax laws in Thailand have nothing to do with nationalty, it has everything to do with residency. If you are resident in Thailand for 180 days or more you are treated the same as a Thai citizen. " It is not a tool that will

facilitate foreign country to chase its visitor's income from their home country" wrong, that's exactly what its purpose is." Thailand can’t and won’t start taxing people on foreign income unless it’s being brought into the country" correct, but until the y pass the law which allows Thailand to tax residents on their global income, as yes this is just a proposal.
Daniel *******
@Graham ******
That is USA thing only :) And it has absolutely nothing to do with living in thailand and thailand trying to tax you 😂

Give up man, you are building your case on some weird hopes and dreams.

Unless a person send’s salaries or income directly to thai bank, there is simply NO WAY putting a thai tax on that…ever ;)

CRS has little to do with America, its global, FATCA is more to do with America. As for taxing remittances into Thailand yes you are correct, if the OECD requirement drives the Thai global tax proposal to fruition then for Thai tax residents there will be a requirement to report global income. Perhaps Wiki is closer to your intellect. If u read it u will see Thailand is not a member of CRS, however joining the OECD requres them to adopt CRS so, its very probably that Thailand will adopt global tax or they would have to leave OECD.

Nope, no country can look into foreigners tax information, sorry to disappoint you. Technically they can, but not for a purpose of taxing hordes of people on their legal income, but for a purpose of suspicion about highly illegal activities, money laundering and basically international crime.

They can surely ask for something me personally and I can give them whatever I want .

So, sorry to disappoint you in your hunt against farangs residing in the country 😂

The banks, same as they do in every country? There is a proposal to tax residents on global income.
Daniel *******
@Graham ******
First of all, half a year+ in a country = tax residency….that is dozens years old law, active in literally every country around the world, including Thailand. Now, enlighten me why anyone with a foreign income would be moving that income to a thai bank, what would be the purpose exactly?
Graham *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Daniel ******
don't have to put your foreign income in a Thai bank. even if u use a credit card or ATM or carry cash across the border, wise, western union. If the global tax proposal is adopted as per OECD requirements, you do not even have to spend the money in Thailand. Requiring tax clearance before leaving is also law here but as yet not enforced.

I just booked flights tickets to Thailand between 27 sep - 28 mars 2024, I realised that this is 182 days between these dates. How ever Im planning a trip to Malaysia of 3 nights during this period. Do I need to pay income tax?

You file tax in Thailand when someone tells you to file and not one minute prior. Ignore all the scaremongering from people.
