the immigration does in fact accept income letters legalized by the German Embassy Bangkok for income proof. I know a handful of married Germans who use this letter

But they will accept two separate accounts, and they will even accept only ONE account with +800.000 THB in ONE's name, and the married partner can go "piggyback" or if you don't like to be compared with pigs, "trailing" is another valid term. one could always get a work permit, while being married to a Thai and on a Visa based on this marriage. You cannot get one if your visa/EOS is based on retirement , though
