My husband holds a retirement non-OA visa, as such, he is required to have mandatory health insurance when renewing his visa next month. I’m holding a dependent (retirement) visa depending on his and I’m over 50. My question is: do I need the mandatory insurance Or just for my husband as the main applicant only.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquired whether they, as a holder of a dependent retirement visa, require mandatory health insurance for visa renewal given that their spouse holds a retirement NON-OA visa. Based on responses, it appears that both the primary visa holder and the dependent must have health insurance when applying for the extension. Additionally, clarification on terminology was provided, noting that one cannot renew a visa but rather apply for an 'Extension of Stay based on retirement'.

as soon as after the application, one of you has been granted a "1-year Extension of Stay Permit based on retirement", the other one can "trail" the spouse on this Extension. But a health insurance cannot be "trailed" - each one of you needs an insurance

you cannot "renew a visa" inside Thailand. You can only apply for an "Extension of Stay based on retirement" from your Non-Imm-O/A visa. You will be issued a "stay permit", not a "renewed visa". You will both need health insurance, and ONE of you needs 800,000 THB in his/her bank account in his sole name, for at least 2 months on the date of the application

I’m in the same situation & we both had to have the insurance.

If I was a betting man I'd wager the immigration office is going to look at it as your extension being thai'd :O err tied to his and for that fact you would need health insurance too

BUT

I could very well be wrong and I think a visit to your local immigration office is in order before you go to apply for your extension(s) just to be sure..
