The O-A visa has this unique characteristic.

After the Second Year is the only time it is required. Otherwise nearly automatic at the near end as described.

In both years you need to report to Thai Immigration every 90 days. But in the First Year an Exit and Reentry will reset the 90 day report. But you should go visit Immigration upon your return.

In the Second Year the Non Imm O-A visa loses the Multi-Entry aspect and reverts to the more common method of administration

And at near the Expiry Date of the first Year - you would be wise to plan an Exit from Thailand and Reenter to Extend your Visa out to a near full 12 months

During the First Year the Multi-Entry aspect of the Non Imm O-A visa allows you Exit Thailand and Reenter without buying a Reentry Permit.

That is a very good visa to have. It is fairly unique in that it also gives you a Second Year stay nearly automatically - without applying for it.
