Wow thanks for responding so quickly to my request to join the group! I arrived in Thailand three weeks ago from the UK on a 12 month retirement visa with my husband. Looking forward to sharing experiences and advice with the group 😀

May I ask - What is the name of that visa - or those visas?

The thing to remember is, with nearly all Thai visas, you must expect to be inconvenienced every 3 months in some way.

Wether it be border bounce or reporting to immigration.

In any case, they stamp the information in your passport, its not rocket science!

I just tried to get an info if OP got a regular O multiple for one year, which requires to do a border bounce every 90days or a real O-A multiple which could be used for up to two years. We recently got enquiries from UK guys which were deported and blacklisted because they thought they had an O-A and "forgot" to do the 90day border run.

Thanks much appreciated

All in all I hope that some benefitted from the discussion. I ask my questions of the original poster (OP) because from experience over the years and just a few days ago here on this Group I felt strongly the full information about the O-A visa was not known. And felt the OP and others would benefit from posting the info. In dozens of instances I have seen the O-A Visa buyer has no way to even get a hint about the full nature of this Visa - because there is no indication of it on the Consular Services website... So what is a person to do? I enjoy educating these Visa buyers as it is like a free gift to let them to let them know of the full benefits, features and options - sort of like an early Christmas present.

Amornrat, would help if you read the original post properly before commenting, your response is not correct and unhelpful! 😁

if you read the thread you'll see that I didn't ask a question, I just responded to JD gruens question.

, im not suprised people come here for info.

The official Thai IMMs website is full of broken links and is mostly in Thai anyway.

In my own country, i noticed the websites of many Thai consulates are very old, never have details and have probably never been updated in 10 years.

Granted though, i do agree with your point- for anyone who wants the info, it is very easy to research.

Thaivisa website is always at the top of the results list, in any search about the subject.

One fellow in this thread said he had to get an Extension of Stay for the Second Year. Obviously he didn't know and it would seem the I/O didn't know either.

Very true, the consulates tell you how to get the visas, never tell you how best to utilize them.
Joe ***********
I don't find it uncommon. Over the last three years on various discussion boards I find that most do not know and are usually pleasantly surprised to find out the details. The O-A visa is not sufficiently discussed on the Thai Embassy / Consulate websites. The features and benefits I point out - plus how it all works are not discussed at all on those Thai websites. They simply say - 12 month visa...

as an member of this group I am a bit sceptical of people claims, in Angela Smith topic I find it surprising that two people got O-A visa in UK and have no glue on how to use the visa and have to turn to FB to get advise, sounds a bit strange.
Joe ***********
Many people do not have the finances in their home countries. Or in many cases people from Western countries come to Thailand on a Tourist Visa or Exempt Entry, obtain a 90 Single Entry O Visa, then convert to a 12 month Extension of Stay. Then do the Extension every year. It accomplishes about the same thing. The O-A is just a neat and tidy package.
Amornrat **********
You got a regular Non O or a real O-A ? They are easy to get, provided you have the funds.

Is it hard for people to get? We had no problem getting it in the UK.

You can check it with other advisor contributors here on this Visa Advice Group. The O-A visa is an attractive - valuable visa to hold

Thanks for the info, only just read all your comments 🙂. Never heard of that before, so it’s useful to know.

Contributors posting on this Group can verify my information - just ask them

The O-A visa has this unique characteristic.
Joe ***********
After the Second Year is the only time it is required. Otherwise nearly automatic at the near end as described.

@JD ******
I have same visa and I had to reapply for renewal.
Joe ***********
In both years you need to report to Thai Immigration every 90 days. But in the First Year an Exit and Reentry will reset the 90 day report. But you should go visit Immigration upon your return.
Joe ***********
In the Second Year the Non Imm O-A visa loses the Multi-Entry aspect and reverts to the more common method of administration
Joe ***********
And at near the Expiry Date of the first Year - you would be wise to plan an Exit from Thailand and Reenter to Extend your Visa out to a near full 12 months
Joe ***********
During the First Year each Exit and Reentry (should you choose to make any) Extends your visa 12 months out to the future
Joe ***********
During the First Year the Multi-Entry aspect of the Non Imm O-A visa allows you Exit Thailand and Reenter without buying a Reentry Permit.

@JD ******
that’s good news, I didn’t realise that.

That is a very good visa to have. It is fairly unique in that it also gives you a Second Year stay nearly automatically - without applying for it.
