not requested much, I know, but useful for many reasons.

Get an international drivers licence prior to leaving, and don't forget your US licence. Open a Thai bank account to transfer your funds to and use the Thai ATM card here. With the right visa seek out a yellow card, and get a pink Thai identity card, along with a Thai drivers licence.

Some of these will take some time after arriving, but worthwhile when you stay long term.

It's a good idea to have a base..saves lugging your gear every day. go explore, just rent on a weekly basis, so if you find somewhere you like, it's easy to relocate, no long commitment..

Largely irresponsible..

Why do this yourself?...

Well, it's on the list of required documents. A divorce certificate from 12 years ago is not proof of currently being single.

One time at Suvanabhumi I got questioned quite heavily. The computer showed I had been in Thailand for in excess of 180 days in 10 months.

I was just here that trip for a few weeks so was after the 30 day stay.

I answered questions honestly and got my entry, along with the stern warning, " get a visa in Australia before returning again"

I read that many have problem getting a Thai bank account. If you know a Thai we'll enough, open an account in their name, but you only have the card..

Or, for just a short holiday, bear the cost of ATM withdrawals, just draw the most cash you can each time.

It really is no big issue, considering most tourists spend like they're millionaires at the bar....;-)
