TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeking advice on extending their stay in Thailand has reached the maximum allowed 60 days with a US passport. They have been advised that only one extension is permitted per entry, requiring them to leave the country and re-enter to reactivate their visa exemption. Suggestions for border runs include traveling to Malaysia or Myanmar, as well as options for booking transportation services. The conversation emphasizes the simplicity of the process but highlights a lack of understanding from the user regarding the immigration rules.
I was thinking the agent could take him across the border... But I guess if he has access to your kind of agent, that is a possibility too. The airport fingerprints, I am not sure about all land borders.
You just cross the border. And come back. There is no trick in it. No agent needed. You can cross a land border 2x a year. Rumors are the 2x limit was dropped, I did not check that.
You not need an agent o simply follow a simple law.
You do not need an agent to do a visa run. You benefit from an agent because they have the transportation planned out. You simple get in the van and play follow the leader. Otherwise a person has to figure out all that stuff for themselves. Not hard but easier not to.
Agents often know which immigration officer to go to, or avoid, which is another benefit.
My agent takes me to the Cambodia border and brings me back 4500. If I wanted to do it myself it would cost considerably more and take longer.
for Malaysian borders, many require you to spend at least 1 night in Malaysia if you do it on your own, but not if you're on an agent border bounce.

… but you knew this of course before you came to Thailand because you planned your holiday well and was aware that you in no possible way could stay more than 60 days when arriving without visa.
Good to see that your careful planning was confirmed by the immigration office.
Obviously your careful planning made you buy a ticket back home, so with all the wisdom you have gathered you can be assured that your return ticket is on exactly the right day.
I’m sure you will sleep well tonight. ;)

Leave the country and re-enter. Last time, I flew from BKK to KL at 8 a.m., had breakfast at McDonald's in the airport, and was back at my desk by 4 p.m.

Leave and come back then you get 60 days, 90 days with extension.
Starting July 15, 2024, U.S. citizens are entitled to receive a 60-day visa upon entry to the Kingdom of Thailand for the purpose of tourism, business engagements, and urgent or ad-hoc work. This visa category can be extended for another period not exceeding 30 days.

I don't get why would one use some visa run company when you can just fly out for a few days to Malaysia?
because im not a complete and total dick, i'll tell you. Google "Thai visa service" and use one that takes you to the border, helps you leave the country then to come back in, then drops you off back at phuket
it is now but he got there in June. The 60 day (with 30 day extension to 90) was passed on 15July

Americans, can't understand why they're not special...
Nothing to do with ego. It has everything to do with employing a gross generalization in slurring, slamming, and distorting the character of my beloved homeland. How would you feel if I done that regarding Australia? Would that bother you?
I am just so sick of everybody unfairly insulting, twisting the character, and slamming the USA and her citizens. I understand it is the cool, hip, and happening thing to do, but I have lost my patience with it.
Yes, I have keen sense of humor, but I did not see humor in the comment. Still don't, sorry.
He was being nice. "Stupid" is really what he meant. He was just being a little classier than some here.

Simple, leave the country and return. What is so hard about understanding what they said.

Have a nice flight out! 🛫 Americans get 90 days free in Malaysia, just go to Penang. Have fun!

Myanmar border, the one entry point that isn't closed. There are daily services getting you there and back for acceptable amounts. Otherwise fly to KL, that you could do by yourself.

Driving options to leave from Phuket are Ranong (4 hours one way) or Malaysia borders (6 hours one way).
Alternatively fly to KL or Penang or Singapore and return on the next available flight.
KBV visa run, TMT visa services or the Phuket Travel Shop all run daily trips to do bounces.

book transport out of thailand and back in

Get cheap flight to malaysia or singapore and come back in. Or use company in phuket for nervewracking drive to ranong (myanmar) and enjoy possibly wet boat ride over and back again.
Yep... that's true, but I know them both and imho the ride to Satun is more bad... also because of the sheer amount of speeding vehicles. And never forget... the best places inside a Minibus are in the last row in the back... 😁
You’ve already got the correct advice. It’s only one extension available per entry (unless you’re married Thai or have a Thai child), so you’ll have to leave and re-enter on a new 60 days visa exemption.
Take a flight or use a land border company to bounce you.
Lynnette *******
Entering exempt you can extend one time. You can't extend it again. You leave and re-enter exempt and will get the new 60 day free entry.
They already told you what to do, so what advice are you looking for? You can only get 1 extension per entry, so now you must leave Thailand and return.
We've discussed before the issue of OA and O visa. I'm on OA which of course carries the need for TGIA insurance. I'm planning to go to Cambodia via Chantanaburi route WITHOUT a re-entry permit. As I understand , I'll get 60 days visa free. During this time I will go to immigration and ask for 365day leave to remain based on retirement. I have the 800k funds in the bank for last 10 years. I've been to immigration and asked them what they need to support the application. One thing that surprised me was a requirement for a hand drawn route from my rental place to local immigration. They also said a new tenancy agreement supported by the owners copies of tabian ban and id card ( plus of course my bank statements for the requisite period). Do you have any suggestions of likely pitfalls?

Make your own thread with your question, instead of highjacking another persons thread with a question that has nothing to do with the OP question.
If your on an extension of stay based on the OA visa, then should be no issues. If you're still on the visa from the embassy, just make sure your return is AFTER the expiration date written on the visa, else you'll be stamped in on your visa again.
The OA visa is a multiple entry visa. As long as the visa issued by the embassy is valid, you will be stamped in on this visa every time you enter Thailand. That's why it's called "multiple entry"
not sure what kind of 'advise' he is looking for. Perhaps his understanding of language made it difficult for him to interpret "no, you have to leave".
