what benefits do you get with elite visa that you don't get with LTR visa? The LTR visa is much cheaper and you don't have to do 90 day reporting, elite visa holder still have to do 90 day reporting.

they are trying to rip you off. You might have to get a residency certificate which an agency would usually charge 1-2k to organize for you and opening the actual account should be cheap.

Just use an agency and you won't have any issues. I paid an agency 500 baht to open my account in Chiang Mai.

Don't believe anyone who says that you have to pay several thousand or buy insurance from the bank. Not true.

Just exchange it at the bank. The pink Thai government bank will do it even if you don't have an account.
