( change of visa to a non o you mean??) aplly for an extension then apply for non o.. thats what i have done. where are you also that makes a massive difference?
ive gotten many visas from bali tourist and other. havent had any real issues other than they are pretty strict with having all paperwork including proof of funds , accommodation and proof of onward travel. they can and do sometimes take their sweet time.. so if ur there for a week...or 2... drop it off sooner than later... sometimes they just dont open with no reason.
you can email them too maybe just to be prepared as things change they take normally a week to respond .

is their email address
Below is an email they sent me in regards to what was needed back in 2014 anyway for Tourist Visa (TR) ****no longer able to get multiple entries... so base it on jst the SETV
"Dear,
Thank you for your email.
You can apply for the visa, please see the attachment.
And I will need a flight-out ticket for each entry.
Thank you,
Tourist Visa (TR)
Requirement document
1. Color photo in 4 x 6 cm., 1 photos
2. Photo copy Passport, 1 Copy
3. Photo copy of return ticket from Thailand to the next destination.
probably exactly true as i think they send it off to Bangkok your right.... however I was told i was able to be seen the same day before going in as well.... and only told needed 21 days....got an extension to be on the safe side... then wasnt till after that i was told would have to come back in a month jst to submit documents as theres a Que just to Submit ( still doesnt make sense to me for that basic hand in process). but better jst to be safe than sorry... cause i was sure in a bad mood yesterday over that.... but is what it is...
if you have the time / ability to travel getting non O in another country ie laos would be much easier and faster... cost a bit more... but either way 2 options :)
mentioned as well . Have to book your appt to make the application first though. So that 15-21 days is for actual process ONCE you already have ur que number to submit which as I said right now depending on location could be a further month or so
yes you can do it in Thailand. go ASAP to ur immigration and you will have to make an appt for application. they say nee 15-22 days min left of stamp allowed to stay in thailand... i jst went yesterday to do mine but the que is so long i have to go back Feb 19th for my application appt.. then they take 1-22 days for consideration to grant the change to non 0 . cost is 2000 baht change of visa applicaton seems to be a very simple and straight forward prcess as far as documentation needed anyway
