TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a 180-day tourist visa and inquires about changing to a Non-O visa based on marriage. It is possible to process this change without going through an agency, either in Thailand or at borders like HCM or Savannakhet. Several commenters provide insights that changing to a Non-O visa internally necessitates preparing specific documents such as marriage certificates, proof of financial stability, and possibly photos with their Thai spouse. The timeframe for processing this visa can vary, and it's suggested to initiate the procedure early, especially considering potential queues at immigration.

if u do it in Suwannakhet then no need for financial proof. But u will have to do the visa run every 3 months

mentioned as well . Have to book your appt to make the application first though. So that 15-21 days is for actual process ONCE you already have ur que number to submit which as I said right now depending on location could be a further month or so

@Ash***
, I think that was b/s that they didn't tell you until after you'd gotten the 30 day extension that you couldn't apply that day :( Sorry for you I know you're very pregnant and it can't be good to be dealing with this..

probably exactly true as i think they send it off to Bangkok your right.... however I was told i was able to be seen the same day before going in as well.... and only told needed 21 days....got an extension to be on the safe side... then wasnt till after that i was told would have to come back in a month jst to submit documents as theres a Que just to Submit ( still doesnt make sense to me for that basic hand in process). but better jst to be safe than sorry... cause i was sure in a bad mood yesterday over that.... but is what it is...

if you have the time / ability to travel getting non O in another country ie laos would be much easier and faster... cost a bit more... but either way 2 options :)

thanx for the thai husband criteria though (y)

@Ash***
, you're talking about Chiang Mai which is notorious for processing only a few applications a day.

In Bangkok, Jomtien, Phuket, etc you just show up with your documentation and get seen that day, get it processed that day and then go back in two weeks to get the Non-O stamped into your passport.

Thanks all for your replies. Just got out of immigration. As my current metv expires in june, the io told me to come back in may, as this visa was expensive!! I tried to explain that I need to change asap, but didnt take any notice :)

My metv

What visa is expensive?

Copy of your passport;

Copy of your Thai marriage certificate (both versions);

Copy of your Thai wife’s ID card;

Copy of your Thai wife’s Tabian Baan (House Papers)

Copy of a map to your residence in Thailand;

Copy of photos showing you and your wife together;

Copy of your bank book showing 400,000 THB in your bank account;or

Copy of your income showing 40,000 THB per month in income

As stated the process takes about 3 weeks and you would need to ensure once it is issued that you obtain a re-entry permit to ensure that when you leave Thailand and return that you do not invalidate the extended visa. With this extended visa you do not need to leave Thailand every 3 months to activate another leg of your visa. You only need to report your home address to Thai immigration every 90 days.

yes you can do it in Thailand. go ASAP to ur immigration and you will have to make an appt for application. they say nee 15-22 days min left of stamp allowed to stay in thailand... i jst went yesterday to do mine but the que is so long i have to go back Feb 19th for my application appt.. then they take 1-22 days for consideration to grant the change to non 0 . cost is 2000 baht change of visa applicaton seems to be a very simple and straight forward prcess as far as documentation needed anyway

Thank you very much
@Amornrat *********
. Will go to closest io and check what docs they require
Amornrat **********
you can change to a single non o inside Thailand, you need at least 15 days balance and have all documents ready. Including financial, however not every Immigration can do. Bangkok is OK.

no agencies that do Savannakhet and no agency in HCMC. However process is straight forward. Both places do not require "show money" in order to get the multiple Non O ( in case you referred to that visa).
