Hi

I am a South African and currently have a 30 day tourist stamp that expires on the 26th of Jan. I started working at a school this week and was informed that I need to go and write a TOIEC test and get police clearance before the school can apply for my work permit and visa. The school did not tell me this during the interview before I came. I am lost. Can all of that be done before the date stamped in my passport runs out in 21 days? My boyfriend who is also here with a 30 day tourist visa and I don't have the money for him to study right now and get an educational visa. I am busy looking for work for him as well. Can you please advise us on what the best option is. Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is a South African currently on a 30-day tourist visa, facing challenges in obtaining a Non-B visa and work permit due to the need for a TOEIC test and police clearance. They have concerns about meeting the requirements before their visa expires, and are also seeking advice for their boyfriend, who lacks a degree and is looking for work. Comments from the community suggest that while the TOEIC test can be completed swiftly, the police clearance may take longer, but a 30-day visa extension could provide the necessary time to complete the requirements.

You will get TOEIC results within a week (at least in Chiang Mai) and it's 1500 baht. The police check will take max 3 weeks. You can get a 30 day extension on your current stamp so no worries, you have time.

U need 30 days left on your visa to apply for non b. SA now have to do toeic test which costs about 9k i think and a week to do. You will have to do that and then go to vientainne and get another tourist visa and then apply for your non b.

Toeic is 1500baht and he needs at least 15 days visa validity to be able to convert from tourist to Non B within the kingdom.

That's how it works for NNES. Get a police Clearance, TOIEC and equally certify your degree and get it legalise at the MFA ( Ministry of foreign affairs) .

Sent you a PM

There are companies in Thailand that would hire you without doing that test. You just need a degree. Also SA is considered a NES country to Thailand.

Remember guys she is on a tourist visa so she needs the police check first to get a Non B

We are not native speakers in Thailand
@Mikhyle *****
and you do need a toeic to get a teachers license and a Non B to do so

Things could have changed I guess:)

I’m from SA. Only needed degree and Tefl. And applied for non b visa in Loas. With a good company it’s smooth sailing

It's not the company but rather the MOE requirement for SA nationals, as far as I know

Get an 30 extension on ur visa exempt while u sort out the rest

Hope and ask the school to arrange as quick as possible, you are only allowed to work with the Work Permit and Visa.

It took 3 weeks for me and I am not a NES teacher, so keep trying!

If he can not get the Work Permit and Visa without degree than the only option is to find another type op work for him.

He doesn't have a degree and I was told only degree holders can get a work permit and visa

If he's also SA and looks for a teaching job he will face the same.

I am aware thereof but I need to write the test before they can process the visa and work permit and that can take months before I get an appointment to go and write. What to do about my boyfriend?
