Hi every one,

We plan to come to Thailand at this end of the month , for 36 days.

Which is our best option?

1- get the extended visa for 1900bath

2- claim for a tourist visa at the Thai embassy before I leave from my country

3- cross the Lao or Cambodia border and get a second 30 days visa ( if it’s even possible)

Thank you for your advice.

Much cheaper to apply for single entry visa before you come In home country. Easy and prob less hassle .

@Laly ********
the single entry tourist visa for 60 days is going to be your cheapest and best option. No messing around at immigration if you took option 1 and no need for a full day in a cramped bus if you took option 3.

Pietro Baroni 40$/ 1000 baht. Any country

If you don't plan on leaving Thailand for side trips, then a Tourist Visa from your home country is the cheapest and best option. If you plan to stay over 30 days the airline check in staff MAY give you grief if you do not have a visa.

Doesn't work like that! If you are caught on overstay you will get arrested and detained. In all probability you will end up missing your flight while your case is processed. You will be fined and incarcerated till you pay and get a new ticket. And as you cannot do all that in custody, if nobody helps you you're pretty much in deep shit. However please feel free to test the system yourself if you doubt all this.

I don't think you can get detained for not extending your VOA in time... she gets 30 days and leaves after 36, she will just say she preferred paying 3000thb at the airport then 2000thb extension + return trip to/from immigration. "If you are stopped by the Police" in one of those 5 days, just say you were/are planning to extend it but didn't have a chance yet. Thai police understands really well that 3000>2000.

Federico, don't give any overstay recommendations to people Anywhere. It can put them in bad situations if they take your advice..!

Thanks, I think we will go for a border crossing.

Not recommended! If you are stopped by the Police within the Kingdom and you are on overstay you will get detained.

If you plan on wanting to visit Angkor Wat in Cambodia which I recommend considering it's so close to Bangkok I'd just do a visa on arrival and do a land crossing for a 2 week extension to get you to your 36 days. If you don't want to leave I'd get your visa at home because for us in Vancouver we save quite a bit of money compared to doing a 30 day extension in Thailand. If you fly back into Thailand instead of doing a land crossing you'll get a 30 day extension but it's all up to you
Stephen *******
Yes it's new. 30 days at land borders for visa exempt entry but restricted to 2 a calendar year.

Land is 30 days? The last two times I crossed the border by land I swear it only gave me two weeks? Is this new?
Amornrat **********
I think OP has all the option, if there is an issue with checking in than you better get a 60day tourist visa, if a Thai Consulate is nearby. Or just enter Thailand on 30 day visa exempt stamp and get a 30 day extension or do a side trip.
Amornrat **********
land border also get you a 30 day entry stamp.
