Asking for a friend: I know this group typically deals with people from Western nations but does anyone know the process for a Myanmar national to obtain permission to work in Thailand?
Since it's an ASEAN member, i'm not sure but my friend boss said they will obtain a work permission which can be renewed every 3 months at the Myawaddy border into Mae Sot. Once in Mae Sot, they can not leave the city. Seems to me to be shady and I just don't want my friend to end up in some kind of trouble.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for a Myanmar national to work in Thailand generally involves obtaining an L-A visa, after which they can apply for a work permit (WP). Work permits must be renewed yearly. Myanmar nationals, as ASEAN members, have specific channels for obtaining work permission, but there are concerns about legality and the potential exploitation of workers due to restrictive conditions. Caution is advised, especially regarding the use of agents and the conditions of the visa, which may limit mobility.
Has he/she got a passport, otherwise he might finish up with a shonky visa that essentially restricted to the district they are working in. Also only get registered with a single name, that may not be their real one, it leaves them open to exploitation
