What is peacefully, find something in a village in NE. As peaceful as it gets.

Have you been to that temple in Krabi that's you got to walk up 10,000 steps to get to the top ? Well no one will hassle you there it's a hell of a walk up !
I have a house in a small village in Kanchanaburi. It is the noisiest place that I have ever lived, including Bangkok. Speakers are my most hated thing in Thailand. Stay somewhere a good while before deciding.
Khaoyai is an underrated, it is just 2 hours from Bangkok with good air quality..

I liked Chiang Mai it wasnt crowded easy to get around. I was only there a few weeks. We stayed at a condo the whole time I was there. We only ran into 1 person on the lift. The building seemed empty but it wasn’t. Very quiet area of the city. Market was across the street and a BIG C nearby. We took grab cars everywhere. I was there several times and went to Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Rai. BKk. As someone mentioned CM is far from beach. I like the idea being near the beaches.

Everyone will have their opinions. My suggestions is to come visit and see what fits into your lifestyle. We live in Na Jomtien on beach road. It’s quiet at this end of the beach.
If you are at peace with yourself you are fine everywhere! I moved from Phuket to a remote village in the province of Udon Thani! I was great in Phuket and I'm great here too

I move between Chiang Rai and Koh Phangan. When I lived in Chiang Rai I hated it too quiet and rural. So I built on Koh Phangan and thought I would be happy around Western people and services etc. But I have learnt the people of the North are genuinely lovely people and the weather is cooler. We will eventually rent out our home here on KP and move back to Chiang Rai to retire. They also have great hospitals and medical care in CR that's my genuine opinion.

That calls for an introspective look. What do you enjoy? Solitude, night life, city life or country.

"Peaceful in Thailand"...is a grave , retirement in thailand is very different. Everyone is different ,as you can see from the answers. Peaceful exists in your mind ..and where you choose to enjoy
That is really up to you ..mountains, beach, city, restaurants, cafes, necessary living accommodations, is all available in thailand .
One's Peaceful is another's hell . Mentally at peace...can be anywhere ,but anywhere is not going to bring you peace in thailand ...there will always be down sides to where ever you go ..there is always a backstage in life ..front stage only a brief show ,

Depends on your needs and preferences. Some like mountains so move to the Chiang Mai area, someone like big cities so move to Bangkok, someone like islands so move to Koh Phangan/Samui/Chang, someone like the quiet, rural areas so move to Isaan, etc.... Noone can answer as long they don't know your needs and preferences... This is like a question how long is a piece of string...

Prachuap Khiri Khan……south of Hua Hin is a great place to retire. It’s small, charming, beautiful
it all depends on what you are looking for in Phuket. Chaotic traffic and infrastructure situation, skyrocketing prices, rip off taxi drivers. I loved it here, but ever since the end of the pandemic things have changed dramatically. If you are looking for a tranquil place, then Phuket and Pattaya are the worst options. Nightlife? Then you are at the right place. Rawai, where I am living, is not to be recommended for the elderly.
depends where in Jomtien you live. We had a condo in the Angkhet Hip Condominium, and you could hear the sounds from the fresh market all day, and the music from the bars all nights long
ohh but they do dude. Kinda really gross to look at. Spoil tge scenery and hell to sit next to in an airplane. You heard about that airplane refund for the beaching dog?
But for me it's Bangkok I love all the convenience of having the bts and shopping for food.
But you have to come to Thailand and do the rounds for a few months before you can see the place where you are happy to live 😊

Phan, 40 minutes south of Chiang Rai, even more quiet and laid back :)

We're both British, in our mid-50s and we've retired in Bang Saray. Near enough to Pattaya city for the facilities, amenities and entertainment but far enough away that we have a nice quiet life.
Suburban life here in Thailand is not the same as when I lived in the suburbs of London for the past 20 years nor the previous 35 years growing up and living in East London itself. My wife is an Isle of Wight girl so it's always been the aim to retire beachside albeit a bit warmer than on the south coast of England.
Lots of local eateries worth visiting and cheap as rice compared with a lot of areas we know.
We're also only half hour (300 baht Bolt) from U-Tapao Airport which is really convenient. We just spent 10 days in Koh Samui for our 21st wedding anniversary and we went from our front door here to the hotel on Chaweng Beach in less than 4 hours including check-in, baggage collection and transfers at both ends.
yes true, but in the far North we have Bangkok Hospital and others. Many of the top doctors go there because they want to live there

If you don't need the beach have a look at Nong Khai. Nice little town on the Mekong/ Laos border. Quiet , friendly and good shopping. Railway to Bangkok when you need to go. Lots of nice villages along the Mekong a short drive away. If you want beach then look at areas between Rayong and Chantaburi. Many beautiful spots, fresh fruit and seafood and a lot cheaper than the more populated areas. But seriously, for someone to answer your question you will need to give a lot more info, ie, do you want western food, a high level of healthcare, public transport, live in a expat community or a thai village? The possibilities are enormous.

Your money will go further if you retire to Isaan. It'll last you easily until you die. Mainly because the place is so dead, you'll die of boredom within a few years 😂
You could always move to Phuket or Pattaya you would be one of the few that could speak any Thai . Besides with the constant chaos and confusion these types of places offer there should never be a dull moment.
Sorry you find this area so boring I can certainly say the same for somewhere like Hua Hin or Koh Samui within an hour I want out freak show will take boring Issan anytime. At least it is not fake and phony tourist dump.
That's for sure! Nothing there to lure any tourists unless they're into boring flat rice farms, water buffalo, drinking beer from a glass filled with ice and sitting on the floor to eat dubious food. Still, to each their own!
Not really. It's so boring. Hardly any night life. I lived in Khon Kaen for nine months when I was working at the university. They offered me another contract but I declined. Would have killed me. I'm retired now, I want to live my retirement
it's obvious that you have never spent time here then. We have much more beautiful beaches than Pattaya and Jomtien. We have an island and several national Parks. We have mountains, lakes and the ocean. We have two shopping malls and plenty of things to do. There are a lot of expats in this area. There is nothing bad about Rayong at all.

My apologies. I deleted my comment realising you aren't a bloke. Bang saray where I live is reasonably peaceful and has a good jungle walk and paradise beach called Sai kaew within close distance. Some decent restaurants be it nothing special down here but you can still get some decent Thai cuisine
the most attractive all around town offering an environment and visual delights in its many buildings. Under UNESCO protection this is a pearl ....I could actually shift there for my south east region HQ.

I like Cha Am. Peaceful, quiet , cheap and near Hua Hin
Cha Am doesn’t have anything decent, but you are only 20-30 minutes away from Bangkok hospital and Sao Paulo hospital which primarily tend to foreign patients. Hua Hin government hospital is also very good and much cheaper
Most important for old people good medical facilities and close enough to call police if you have problems city living or country living both have good and bad points
No where is quiet in Thailand, someone is always making a noise, revving their motorbikes, burning something, chickens, building - always banging & drilling, karaoke nights, dogs barking & parties - Thai’s are the biggest whiskey drinkers globally & 2nd most dangerous country in the world to be killed on the road. Welcome to Thailand 🇹🇭 (This is the truth) pockets of peace far away from humans then it’s okay)
the road statistic is a bit misleading though. Almost 75% of those deaths are on motorbikes. Car death rates aren't that bad, per capita it's similar to the US (hard to properly/accurately compare though)
I was traveling around for a few months to see potential places. Now in the central hub of bandkok which isn’t the first choice for many. But I love it and i I need good health care which I didn’t find anywhere else as convenient as here 🙏
Thailand is for exploration not buying a home and planting yourself down for 20 years like we do in the west.... at least not at first. Spend a few months here and there. There's wet, smokey and hot seasons. Each area is different.
gotta love how they speak and act. When I go down to the south (Im from Malaysia), they sound so crude down there in comparison. 😂

I agree Chiang Rai has so many quiet peaceful mountains. National parks in Chiang Rai are free. Empty hot springs, cold weather. Love the sheep. Lots of delicious food. I live in Chiang Mai but love the peace of Chiang Rai.
people are soft spoken here, everything moves at a slow pace, crime rates are low (besides drugs at the golden triangle), barely any traffic jams, plenty of great mountains. Just a perfect place to retire.
my wife said no to moving to Chiang Rai. We live in northern Chiang Mai. I would love to build a tiny little home up in the mountains in Chiang Rai. Get a few sheep. A rocking chair lol. Perhaps a holiday home. Will be camping a lot in Chiang Rai this winter.
