u can give cash to a friend, Thai or whatever, and they can top up. I doubt a (trusted) friend would run off with a few thousand baht.

The money isn’t actually deposited in some cases. They just obtain the bank letter, and that’s what you’re paying for.

Worse case scenario is to pay an agent. I made a similar mistake, though mine was more than a few minutes. Maybe give it a try and then use Thai Visa Centre as a fallback.
