well i live here for 3 years. not have and not need a local account. i also have my TM account for about a year and all features activated through providing my driving license ;) but i very rarely use it because its just not good.

as a local its totaly different as they can connect their bank account to TM. and they get some benefits whatsoever.

the difference with my german bank account is that it tops up with income from my company every month. and i dont pay a fee for that ;) if i want to top up my TM wallet then i need to withdraw cash which would come at 250 baht fee for most people plus whatever exchange rate difference your bank gets. and then i need to drive to a true shop and top up my TM wallet… it just costs money and is inconvinient. and for what? to do a few QR payments each month? not worth the hassle. just add a credit card top up. cannot be hard right? AIS for example has that…

not criticizing the people. only the bad solutions.

all these solutions feel like college research projects where you put out a system in alpha stage and let people try it out and troubleshoot for you 😅

OP is a DN. So it

would be very beneficial for him and his future to go with a real bank account that is great for beeing abroad and doing transactions abroad. a bank that offers those reimbursements. otherwise its just shortsighted. he will eventually leave thailand again and have the same problem elsewhere.

i am bringing facts to the table. thats all. you need cash to top up. which makes it a terrible system for longterm. add a credit card top up option and it will be good.

what bills do you need to pay online? my rent i can transfer via wise or revolut. same as my utilities. can also pay anything at 7-11. there is a 7 every few hundred meters 😅

why would i want to prepay lazada or shoppee? pay on delivery after checking the items is the way to go…..

Grab, etc. work perfectly fine with any foreign credit card. i just put in my virtual cards to be safe.

why do you need to see my TM account? as long as you cannot top up with credit card and need cash for it its pretty $hitty.

did you even read the post?? OP is a DN currently in Bali. So idk where he would get 10k USD to bring into thailand. or even 1 or 2k… this isn’t really helpful so.

as long as you need cash to top up any wallet it is pretty trash. its a funny gimmick to use QR payments but nothing more.

The solution is to have a foreign bank that reimburses you atm fees. Otherwise just eat the fees. 250 baht per 30k transaction isnt too crazy. And transfer big sums like rent via Wise/Revolut/etc. to minimize atm withdrawals.

all of these systems are pretty useless until they implement a credit card top-up.

SuccessfullinMalaysia but it requires cash top up which makes it pretty useless if you stay longer
