My agent held my passport only for a short time while the visa was being processed, a few weeks. This was because my home was many hours away from their office. The agent will use their own money. That's why you pay them for the service.

I'm a believer that you should choose a partner that has a lot in common with you such as age, family, work life. If there's a big mismatch then I would be very hesitant.

Also consider that renting gives you the chance to move around and see the country before settling. You will probably come back to her home town anyway but at least you had a look around

At most airports, even small ones they have a counter to buy your re entry permit. I'm in Hatyai. It was easy.

Wasn't easy to get information on the www about how 90 day reporting works. My visa agent was not very helpful either. Now it all makes sense. If you stay 90 'consecutive' days then you have to report in.

Pay an agent to help you. I did it in Phuket & was shocked how many forms & steps there were. Without a translator sitting next to me I would have found it very difficult.

Yes, I used an agent who circumvented the financial requirements so i have to use an agent again or cop some sort of fine. In dealing with the agent I was unable to have a understandable conversation so I was unaware of what they were doing for me. That was in Phuket
