I’m in the same boat; but I’m a US Citizen and I’m covered by a tax treaty between Thailand & the US. What that means is that while (like you) I’ll be a Thai tax resident if I spend over 180 days here, all that means is that I’m liable for filing a tax return in Thailand. The treaty means that’s I’m not subject to double taxation. It’s likely UK and Thailand have the same framework/treaty; consult a competent attorney/CPA in Thailand. I doubt you’ll get much useful info on this newsgroup (albeit people try to help).

After carefully considering 3 visa types that I was eligible for (US Citizen, live in NYC): O-A (I've been on this twice before), O-X (was interested this since its a 5 year visa), and the DTV...I settled on the DTV: easy to get (if one qualifies), no mandatory health insurance, and fewer docs (than O-A or O-X). O-X requires a balance in a Thai account..kinda hard (albeit not impossible since I have a Bangkok Bank account) to set this up from the US.

I’m shocked. I have a Bangkok Bank account too and the app has been inaccessible and the website useless.

I believe veterans are allowed to use blue or black ink on immigration forms..only blue ink for the rest of us schlubs (sec 14 C-12 of Thai Immigration Act 1964).

Congratulations..this sounds like an exciting plan and Hua Hin is nice. What bank are you planning on using to deposit the funds? Have you researched the investment options for what returns (interest) you’ll get on your funds? I’ve found I can easily get 4% on my US fixed income investments (11-15 month CD), but returns in Thai banks are much lower. Like 1%.

tsk tsk. *goats! Unnecessary capitalization, and two extra exclamation points.

technically you can roll that cash into a CD that gives you the Thai sovereign rate. But that rate (1 year) is pretty crappy right now (~1%).

would a US bank branch in Thailand work? Or does it have to be a Thai bank?

I don't quite qualify for the LTR...likely will in about a year, but not just yet.

that seems so odd: that the Thai embassy in Aus would have a diff rule. Do you know of any agency does O-X visas for US Citizens? I need expert/experiential advice.
