I've done several border runs from Nong Khai and never had a problem, quite the opposite, they are very helpful.

You can cycle across the bridge from Nong Khai in to Laos. Just fill in a couple of forms either side. Go to booth 5D on the Thai side.

I assumed that she needed a sponsor to prove that she has somewhere to stay and that I have the means to support her and that she has to prove she has good reason to return to Thailand!

I had never heard of VFS until mentioned by Phil Cefiro.

But now I know, guess what?

I have googled VFS and am now on the right track thanks to him.
