Can I apply for a retirement visa when visiting on a 60 day visa?

I will be renewing at immigration once for another 30 days and then a trip to Laos for the last 30 days of my 120 day visit.

I already have a Thai bank account with the required funds in it.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can apply for a retirement visa while visiting Thailand on a 60-day visa, but you need to have at least 14-21 days left on your current visa to start the application process for a NON-O visa. After extending your tourist visa, you can apply for the NON-O visa and subsequently for a one-year extension. However, if you plan to leave shortly after, it may not be worth the effort since timing and requirements may lead to complications.

get a non o with 800k in the bank and apply for 12-month extension of stay at the same time.

Yes you can. Won't have to border run to Laos

Yes you need 15-21 days left on your visa to apply for the non-o visa 90 days when you have 30 days left you apply for your 1 year extension

No point.

The timelines to obtain the 12 months extension off the first in county 90 day non-o will most likely trip you up.

You can but I don't see much point if you're just planning on leaving right after that.

You can apply for a non-O visa but you need at least 14-21 days left on your existing stay, so you would need to do it after you get your tourist extension. Then you'll receive an under consideration stamp with a date to return and get your 90 day non-O visa. Then after 60 more days you could apply for the 1-year extension. But if you're not going to be here to apply for the 1-year extension then there's not much point in applying at all.

As you can see I'm not that clued up on visas! I visit every year for

months and thought the retirement visa might be a better option than getting a 60 day tourist and then two 30 days.

in order to make it work you'd probably need to get the non-O visa from home before you travel to Thailand. Then you can apply for the 1-year extension 60 days after you arrive and continue doing that 1 year extension each year. But based on your current plans it doesn't seem workable. You'd also need to purchase a re-entry permit so it's not cancelled when you leave Thailand.

On the Thai Visa website it mentions 'Spouse/children of a Thai national' in order to apply for a non-O visa!

My partner of 4 years is Thai, she has 2 children, one 16, one 30 from a previous marriage.

I have never applied for a non-O visa as I assume that I do not qualify!

a retirement visa is also a non-O visa, as is a volunteer visa and a marriage visa. O means "other"
