Anyone have recent experience or knowledge about the Mae Sot/Myawaddy border visa run? I wish to extend my visa exempt for 30 days. Have done this once already within Thailand. That visa exempt expires in two days and the Mae Sot/Myawaddy border is closest to my location. Canada passport. Many thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post seeks information on recent experiences regarding extending a visa exempt by 30 days at the Mae Sot/Myawaddy border. The user must complete this before their current visa exempt expires in two days. There's a suggestion about getting a longer extension at the local immigration office instead.

Good Luck, we're done.

Did you get 30days extension at local immigration office? It could be longer travel but you don’t have to spend 1-land-visa-exempt-entry now if you don’t yet.

your co-worker doesn't know their ass from their elbow about what's what at that border.

Victor I am not familiar with that border crossing but am familiar with Mae Sai/Tachilek (spelling?). At that crossing it is for sure 500 baht or $10 US dollars for a day pass. The key there is that foreigners are not allowed onward travel from Tachilek. If onward travel within Myanmar is allowed at your proposed crossing then you would need a visa to enter Myanmar.

Amornrat Mattioli that sounds wonderful but my co-worker is adamant that you can't do this, must already have Myanmar visa and proof that you have a Thai visa, etc. He has seen many people turned back at this border over 11 years. But then I hear other accounts and info such as yours.

they allow two land border entry. For a quick border run you will get the "day pass" to stay a few hours there. Easy. Stamp out of Thai, walk across, stamp into Myawaddy, nowadays they prefer THB500, after an hour or so back over the bridge . stamp back into Thailand, no question ask.

yes I already got a 30 day extension at a local immigration office and it expires the day after tomorrow. I just need to leave Thailand and re-enter and I'm pressed for time, hence considering the nearby Mae Sot/Myawaddy border, but I"m getting very little information about doing such runs at this border crossing. Spent a lot of time googling and it seems people have done this border visa run before but it was a while ago and my co-worker seems adamant that it cannot be done. Must already have a Myanmar visa or some other conditions, yet I've seen online some accounts of easily getting a day pass into Myanmar for 500 baht to do this. Very confusing.
